So we're on to our 5th month trying...
AF came again this month, this time 2 days early--a 24 day cycle. I was completely caught off guard.
DH and I think it may be the stress I've been under with my very messy unstable job and all. Now that I have a new job (yay!) that I start on Aug. 8th and I'm not going to be commuting into NYC anymore (yay!), we are thinking we might have a better shot at getting pg.
But if it's not stress... when should I go to the doctor? Should I try for another few months before going? I'm due for a checkup in October. Should I just wait until then?

My OB/GYN said to come in after 6 months.. but I know other doctors say 1 year....

How old are yuo? That makes a big difference in when you should go to a specialist. I'd say if you are around 35 yrs old (give or take) I would go now. If you're younger they usually want you to TTC for a year on your own before seeing a specialist.

We're both under 30.
Even though I asked the question, I know my gut is telling me we should try at least a couple of more months.

Oh Cheryl...I'm sorry AF showed. Being that you are both young (under 30), I would definitely keep doing OPK's or charting for the next few months and bring them with you to the Dr. in October. This way, you can show the Dr. what's been going on and it might help them with what tests to do first and such. Good luck.....lots of baby dust to you.

I agree .. I know its not easy to "wait" but I think given your age, even if you brought it up with a doctor they would tell you to wait as well

I was just doing OPK's. But I'm going to start charting-- tomorrow. That is such a good idea to have this info handy when or if I have to go to the Dr.

Im so sorry. I know how you feel. This August will be 2 years of TTC for us. I went to my gyno for a checkup and it was 10 months of trying, so he said do you want to run tests?
So ask your gyno and see what he/she recommends.

Cheryl,
my best friend was trying for 8 months, the whole time working a very stressful job in manhattan. She gave notice at her old job and the first week at her new job she conceived!!!!!
Hope the same happens to you!

If you dont think you ahve any underlying problems that you know of...I would probably try for like 10 months before making an appointment.
Are you charting? a lot of people just are not doing it in the small window of time you have...
My OBGYN said after 30 6 months, below 30 1 yr, BUT if your charting, using OPKS and timing it right, they will usually reduce those numbers.
I think in your heart you;ll know when enough is enough ...

Have you had prenatal tests Me and my husband have been trying for 6 months they will check that everyting is okay but they will tell you that on average it could take 6 to 12 months for a healthy couple to conceive and try not to stress about it when you stop trying so hard to get pregnant and just have fun that is when they say you will get pregant

Not my point though..what I came on here to say was that if you feel you are ready for some testing go to your dr and ask...it cant hurt to ask.
