My DH is an only child and I have an older brother who I'm very close with. So definitely my older brother and his wife 
If we have a second child I think it would be DH's childhood friend and either his wife or my best friend.

I think it is imortant to choose family...because you can loose touch with friends over the years.
When my son was born I choose my sister...because she is my rock and I can count on her for anything, and I choose my Uncle...because he took a not so desirable path...but because he loves his family he found his way out. both my sister and uncle are good role models for James.
I promised DH that if we have a 2nd we would choose his sister...just no idea who we will choose for the God Father. I want to choose a blood relative...because Divorce Runs Rampant.

For our first it will definitely be my sister and DH's best friend. DH is an only child and his BF is like a brother to him.

That would seem like the logical choice, but not in our case.  My sister has health problems and is a single mother as it is, so I couldn't add anything to her plate. DH's twin brother is married to a horrible witch and we would never want her to have anything to do with raising our child if God forbid anything happened to us. We'll probably forgo the whole Godparent thing, but privately name DH's siter the guardian. She's the youngest of our siblings, but we feel she's got her sh!t most together.
