Godparents ??

I have to vent . My sons godmother lives in California and hardly see my son Joseph which is going to be 4 years old in October.

I recently had another baby Mariella who is 2 weeks old. My sons godmother called me today and during the conversation she asked me how old my son was she thought he was going to be 3 !!!

She never calls to see how he is
Never sends him anthing unless it a Birthday

Do I have to high of standards for Godparents ??? My dh says I do.
I dont think so I think when you accept the title Godparent you are suppose to know whats going on in their life and the most important how old the child is !!!

Now that Godparents left a bad rap to me I am afraid to pick anyone to be my daughters Godparents.

Anyone else have a similar story ???

Godparents I feel should be an important part of their Godchild's lives. They should definitely be there for any important days and occasions of the childs life. Oh and they should really know the godchild's age.

That's why for me I don't like to pick people far away because then that person will be around even less.

I'm sorry about your situation. Is there anyone that you are really close to that you can choose as your daughter's Godparents?

I just think that the role of a Godparent is an honor and should not be taken so lightly...My Godparents forgot my birthday a loooooooooong time ago. I'm not a child where I want a gift...I don't even need a card. But dammit sometimes a phone call would be nice.

Godparents in my family are a VERY big deal, but I have learned that it is not the same in each family. My godparents spoiled me to death, called for every special occasion, did extra special things for me, etc, but not everyone thinks of it as an important role. I try not to make my history with my godparents dictate what every godparent should be because then I am guaranteed to feel let down because my godparents were/are HUGE shoes to fill!!!.

To me- Godparents... are specifically there for religious reasons....

I had a hard time with choosing Ryans because Im very religious... and wanted Ry boys GP to have some kinda relationship with God...

My MIL fought tooth and nail with me about my SIL being his GM- and I had heard too many comments about her not believing- and to me- I just wasnt going to stand up in front of the church- and name someone who dosent even believe in God- his Godmother...

In the end- My brother (who is religious) was choosed for his Godfather- and I didnt wanna deal with my MIL's cr@p- so we decided to give SIL the benefit of the doubt....

Her views have since changed sitting in on that service

In the end- I knew how I was gonna raise my child... and could only hope his GP's would be there to uphold what I wanted to enforce...


My MIL.... always makes comments like: "well thats her Godson" or "Shes his God mother" and truthfully- In my eyes.... She is his aunt- and should love him based on that.... I dont expect anything more from her for being his Godmother...

The ONLY thing I expect is for her to guide him in a relationship with God....


Im very religious... so this is just my POV and how I see things for my life...

Your daughter is so cute and she has cheeks that you just want to squeeze . I grew up with a godmother who was always in my life and even though I didnt talk to her about everything I knew I always she was their for me. My sibblings godparents on the otherhand are not active in their lives. I chose my first cousin who is the same age as me and my DH's sister and I know they will always be involved and that is what I wanted. I don't think you asking to much I think their is more to just having a title its about helping to guide them and being their for them when they feel that they can't to their parents, like a mentor.
