Keyspan Gas bill

is this possibly right

we got our first gas bill yesterday, it says we owee $377 for 40 days, but their "estimated" reading is 5819 but our meter is really at 6100, which means our bill should actually be more like $900 for 40 days???!!!!!!

DH is freaking out

Our winter bills have been huge also. We have gas for heat, hot water and cooking. Thankfully, our LIPA bill has been lower than the Summer, but it all goes to the one company anywayChat Icon

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

our gas bills for the past 3 months are as follows
November: 175
December: 148
January: 207

We put in a digital thermostat in December so that lowered our bill, but the actual cost of gas has gone up 35% since December. (So we are using the same amount of gas, but the price has gone sky high).

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

$900 is crazy for 40 days. Do you leave the hot water running? What is the temp set for? How big is the house?

Maybe there's a problem with your meter. My first bill in the house was very big, and when we went out to check the meter, we smelled gas. Turned out the meter was busted and was leaking. They came and put a new digital meter on right away and my bills have seemed more normal (still expensive, but about what everyone else seems to be dealing with). My last bill was $264 for 33 days.

I live in NJ but our bills have been crazy too. I call each month to verify it's the correct amount, because I just can't believe how high they are.

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

We just got our Keyspan bill and it was $450!

We have balanced billing, thank godness, so we didn't owe that much.

make sure they charge you for actual usage NOT estimated. seems as if they billed you on an estiamted meter reading.

We are on a budget and pay $103 a month and have $400 credit so far. Maybe you could go on a budget. It works really well for us.

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

We're also on the budget plan. We pay the same price every month. There is no surprise when I open the bill every month.

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

My mom has Keyspan Gas and her bill's have been astronomical since November...I think it's been $500(Nov.) $400(Dec.) and $520(Jan.)...apparently it's actually cheaper to have oil heat at this point.
The prices are insane IMO.

Go on the budget it's much better than getting surprised with big bills like that.

Re: Keyspan Gas bill

Our gas bill has been insane too, and for a little house with two-zone heating (we keep the basement zone at 58) it's insanely $$$.

Unfortunately, we can't go on the budget plan until we've been here for one year, so we've had much higher bills this winter than we did in the late summer and fall.

I can't wait to expand one day and get a wood-burning stove.

We have been on a budget plan ever since we moved in. They set it up right away for us and went by the previous owners and adjusted it as we went along.

We were going to do that but the previous owner's monthly bill was really high; we keep our heat on the low side. brrrrrrrrrr
