Oh my god, that is horrifying....my DH saw the same thing...someone was PUSHED in front of the train at the hicksville station years ago and Kevin saw the guy burned by the tracks....his muscles were involuntarily pulling him off the third rail, but then he would fall back down (Kevin said it looked like he was doing push ups).....the guy did not make it...so scary....what a way to go

I witnessed something similar many years back - had severe shakes for a few days. I hope all those who watched are okay 
My heart and prayers go out to the person who was hurting so much they jumped in front of a train

He's at work...but he said he's shaking. I asked him if it was possible that the man fell in; he said no way...the guy looked like he was diving into a pool, and Dan saw the train run him over...then he said the guy looked bent in two but was still moving. OMG...

July 6, 2006, 9:08 AM EDT
An empty train carrying electronic equipment derailed this morning near Penn Station, causing scattered delays for Long Island Rail Road commuters coming to the city during a rainy rush hour commuter.
And in a seperate incident, commuters on the Port Jefferson line were delayed when a westbound train hit a person in Smithtown. That incident had a ripple effect, too, delaying westbound service between Huntington and Smithtown for approximately an hour and 15 minutes, he said.
No injuries were reported in the 2:30 a.m. derailment just east of Manhattan's West Side storage yard, said Long Island Rail Road spokesman Sam Zambuto.
But it caused 15 to 20 minute delays, particularly on trains coming from the Port Jefferson/Babylon, Port Washington and Ronkonkoma branches, he said. Some of those westbound lines were combined or cancelled.
The cause of the derailment was being investigated, Zambuto said.
It was unclear how many commuters were affected by the delays.
Separately, an individual was struck by a train this morning at Smithtown, Zambuto added.
At 6:10 a.m., the 5:44 a.m. westbound Port Jefferson train hit the person, he said.
The circumstances of the incident were not immediately clear, but Zambuto said Metropolitan Transportation Authority police were investigating. The person who was struck was reported alive immediately after the incident, though their status -- or their gender or age, for that matter -- was not unknown at this time.
That caused separate delays, Zambuto said, as the train at Smithtown was cancelled. Commuters on that train were transferred to a train that followed, but experienced 60 to 90 minute setbacks.

I find it odd that they say the train struck the person; it makes it sound like it was the LIRR's fault; I guess they don't mention the suicide aspect because of the family

I am sorry your DH had to witness that- this brings back alot of bad memeories for me
4 of my friends were killed by the Train in Stony Brook- ( I'm sure some of you might remember the story) about 12- 13 years ago
2 boys were hit by accident crossing the tracks
then 2 girls in my grade killed themselves by lying down on the tracks
to this day I get very creeped out when I hear the train whistle
