BF and drinking alcohol
I've been doing some research about this and it doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. Everything seems to say that mild to moderate drinking is ok. But what about the occasional "party night"? I have a wedding coming up after I have the baby and I really want to be able to indulge a little more than just a glass or two. I plan on having some milk stored up so I won't need to BF the baby soon after drinking and I can naturally let my body absorb the alchol. Has anyone else done this?

Hi ! When I took the bf course at my hospital the lactaion cons. said that a drink or two is OK, just allow at least 2 hours before feeding baby - or you can pump and do the next 2 feedings or so by bottle! Believe me - I am having a glass of wine SOON !

Re: BF and drinking alcohol
After not drinking for 10 months, a drink or two is all I can do without feeling really loopy.
I was told that if you can't feel the effects, it's probably not affecting your milk. For me, I only have one or two, at the most if I'm out for an extended period of time.

I didn't drink the whole time I BF but I have had friends that pumped and dumped.

Re: BF and drinking alcohol
I have had 2 wild nights since DD was born. I just didn't feed her that night. I didn't pump or dump, I just went to bed and fed her the next morning (about 7 hours after I came home).

Re: BF and drinking alcohol
I'll usually feed her or pump just before drinks. I won't BF her while I'm drinking, but once the alcohol is absorbed, I will or I'll pump (without dumping).
For a big night out, she's not with me So she'll go to bed on formula or expressed BM.

Re: BF and drinking alcohol
I read there's no need to pump and dump because the alcohol will work it's way through your sytem and leave your milk. I drank when I was BF-ing. Not tons, but I did. I would just wait a few hours to pump.

I read the same thing, My only issue is that I'm sure I'll need to get rid of some milk before I actualluy absorb the alcohol. So my plan for now will be to feed Luca before I leave for the wedding, have a sitter give him a bottle of BM before bedtime, come home and pump and dump to relieve myself, give him a bottle whenever he wakes up during the night and then BF in the morning. Hopefully that will work- because I selfishly can't wait to indulge with my friends a little.
