How to get to MSG? Train/subway/bus/drive
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get from Southampton to MSG/Penn Station for the Billy Joel Concert tonight....
I want to drive in, but my DH is worried about the parking.... is it that bad?
And there aren't too many trains leaving from Southampton to Penn Station, should we drive up the island to get the train from somewhere else?
and the Hampton Jitney won't work because the last bus out here is at 11:30 which is cutting it kinda close....
any ideas or suggestions? I've never taken the train  so I'm not sure how to figure this out

why dont you drive to Rokonkoma...the parking in the lot is free...then take the train into Penn Station. You will have more trains running to Ronkonkoma later at night (after the concert) then you will to South Hampton

I think taking the train out of the Ronkonkoma station is a good way to go. I've done this quite a few times for a show at MSG even when i lived in E.Quogue... any of the stations out east are going to have such limited return times at night.
The Ronkonkoma station is easy to get to- right off the LIE exit 60

You have to take the train for sure. Its soooo much easier. You get off the train , and walk upstairs. Driving that far is just gonna make you tired before you even get there.
Catch a "express" train from Ronkonkoma on the way there so it doesnt stop every few minutes and you will be there before you know it!!
Eta- If you leave from Southampton you will have to Transfer Trains at Jamica anyway.

Here is the Ronkonkoma train schedule for tonight
The First time is leaving Ronkonkoma, the second time is arriving at penn station.
The 4:46 one leaving Ronkonkoma looks like the only express one.

Well Jenn looks like you are taking the train - good idea - but I wanted to say HAVE A GRRREAT TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Are you going for dinner beforehand? The place we went was pretty good, a bit pricey tho...

When going to an event at MSG we always eat at Mustang Harrys or Mustang Sallys - its 1 block south of MSG. Its basically an American food restaurant - but its sooooooooooo good. Very tasty and reasonably priced.

If the Jitney is out, than I would do the Ronkonkoma thing. I don't think you have to change in Jamaica if you leave from there.

We're actually going to leave from Babylon now the trains leave more often so that we don't get "stuck" in the city

We went to Nick & Stef's Steakhouse... it was the ONLY place we could get a table anywhere near MSG. It is in Penn Plaza, enter on 33rd St. They actually have $35 Paint the TOwn menu option which was a pretty good deal (app. main dish, and dessert). The food was excellent but by the time we were halfway through it was really noisy. I got there at 5:45 and it was nice and quiet.....

We went to Hard Rock Cafe in Times Square when we went to see U2 at MSG.
