Cat/Kitten

What does everyone do with their kitten/cat when they go away? My parents live very close by but we usually drop Stella off at their house when we are gone. recently my parents suggested leavinb her at home and they would come by 2x a day to hang/feed. clean her litter box....but I feel like she would be lonely what does everyone else do?

If I'm going for a short weekend trip, I have someone come by and feed them and pet them, etc. But any longer than that and they stay with my parents. They get so lonely, and refuse to eat if they're lonely
