I don't have many much older friends, but plenty of our friends our age have asked about our condo cost. I'm pretty open about it--if anyone cared they could just check the going rate on mls anyway. I was at class for my grad. program today, and a few people asked if I was taking loans for the whole thing, etc., but I really don't mind if people are in the same boat.

I know how you feel!! Completely!!
I had someone ask me all the time how could I afford to buy a house and pay for a wedding.
Unless you offering to pay my bills shut your mouth!

i dont know why older people do it, but i feel like sometimes when someone is in a similiar situation it is helpful information to know... for example, recently fi and i have had a house offer accepted... a fellow teacher who is also getting married asked me how much our morgage payments would be and how much we would be putting down... i dont mind answering this at all because i know she wants to figure out if her and her FI can afford this too...

I haven't had older people ask me....but I'm more than happy to talk to people my age about it. since we're in similar situations.....

I don't think its anyone's business to ask you how much you paid for your condo, car, wedding etc....
Unless its someone you have close relation with.
Some people just want to compare, or discourage you in some cases - as to how much money you've invested in something.
I personally don't like to ask anyone those kind of questions, only because I don't like people to ask me
