Looking for Choc Lab ....
My brother is looking for a chocolate Lab, or mix thereof. Older puppy preferably like 10 months or so. He has two small children, and has been waiting for the right time to get a dog, and it's finally here. I am keeping an eye on petfinder for him, and my local shelters, but if anyone knows of one in need, please let me know.

The Guide Dog Foundation in (Smithtown??) often has labs up for adoption - those who don't work out as guide dogs for one reason or another (poor sense of smell, aversion to fireworks, small things like this).Guide Dog Foundation

FYI....I called them, they really weren't very nice at all!!! They also said they do not do adoptions anymore that it was a longg longgg time ago....whateva....
It's funny I emailed and called them a while ago about volunteering, never got any response, I guess they do not need much help, although i would not want to volunteer for people with the type of attitude I got on the phone. It's a shame.

Here is another idea..LI Lab Rescue
ETA OK now after looking at that site I am bawling like a baby for the poor "special needs" labs....

Thank you all!
I spoke with my brother again this morning. He is coming down this weekend, so he can get my crate, and we will visit some shelters. I told him not to get hung up on any one breed, although if a lab is available of course it is a great choice. However, there are sooo many wonderful mixed breeds, he needs to bring his family, talk with the adoption counselers and find the right fit! He is so excited, he has wanted a dog for so long, but really had to wait until he owned a home, and for his wife to be on board (she is a stay at home mom)...so a lot will be on her shoulders. But this was her idea...so it's all exciting.
I think I will take him to Kent animal shelter, and NSAL, because they usually have a large selection. ALso, I called Save A Pet, and they said they got a beautiful spaniel mix in last night, that sounded perfect, housebroken, great with kids etc...
His choice, I just want to help.
