if you rent an apartment do u have renters insurance??

is it worth paying for this? some pple insist I should have it while others seem leery.. any opinions appreciated

I do. It is about 12$ a month. I'd rather have some protection and it doesn't break the bank to have it. In fact, having that plus car insurance gives me a discount.

We have it also - I am not sure how much it costs a month for us - but it is such a small amount.

For such a small amount it pays, god forbid anything should ever happen.

We have renters insurance - we got it when we got engaged so the ring would be covered...

when i was renting in brooklyn, at first we DIDN'T have renters insurance. about 5 years ago, while vacationing in florida, a pipe burst from the upstairs apt, and there was 2 inches of water in my apt!!! everything from my wall to wall carpeting, entertainment center, to kitchen tiles, were RUINED. I got back $150 from the management office!!!! Thats it!!! ...tough luck for me!!!! had i had renters insurance, i would have been covered for everything.!! Needless to say, after that, i got the insurance.

yes! Its worth it. We had years ago a house fire and we rented the place. We got nothing but from the red cross. Our landlord got homeowners insurance.

Fh has it. It's so worth it. We actually got it basically for free because we got it through the same company we have car insurance from and it gave us a multi policy discount on both, and the car insurance discount more than paid for the renter's insurance!

When I lived in Bayside in an apt., I had it...and I had to use it

While I was on vacation...my apartment was robbed. They took all my jewlery, my lap-top, money and some other things. Insurance covered most of it.

Yes, we have it- with the $ for my e-ring it's about $225 for the year.

We use Allstate.

I rent, but don't have it...after all this rain I have heard flooded basement apartments, so i think if I was in a basement I'd consider it!!!!!

I've rented for 6 1/2 years & never had renters insurance. I also didn't get wedding insurance or traveller's insurance. I guess I like living on the edge.


My apartment was broken into last year, but apparently I have nothing of value, b/c nothing was taken.

It is definitely worth it and it is cheap. Look at it this way, would not buy homeowners insurance if you could get away with it? I think not.

I work in property mgmt and you should def get renters insurance with personal liability and property coverage. It's cheap for the year, when you compare that what your furniture, and belongings are worth. Make sure you get water coverage, just in case pipes burst or freeze or the kind of natural occurences you just can't control.
