Question about "As Is" Houses

I always thought that houses that are sold "as is" always have structural damage. Is this not always the case? Are some of these houses just in need of major cosmetic work?
I always overlook houses in "good" or "as is" condition because I figured that they were being held together by bubble gum or something Chat Icon

Re: Question about "As Is" Houses

I don't know about other situations, but I bought my house in " as is" condition because it was a foreclosure. In general, (it's my understanding) when a bank forecloses on a house and becomes the property owner, they don't want to be bothered with any issues regarding the structural integrity of the house - so they typically sell in "as is" condition.

In my case, the house was structurally sound - just abandoned for alomst a year - so the utilities were in question.

Five years later - we're happy as ever! I'd take a peek at what the "as is"'s have to offer!

Good luck!

Re: Question about "As Is" Houses

Not necessarily. Our house had a problem with the electrical- it was advised that we upgrade it from 100 amp to 200 amp. We tried to negotiate but we were told that the house was sold as it. It isn't a big deal- a day's worth of work and to be honest we were silly to haggle since we were already getting a good deal. There were no structural issues with the house.

Our house needs paint and some things changed that we don't like, but it's more a matter of taste than anything.
