How long did you wait to take your baby on errands?

I'm getting stir crazy being home bound!

So was I, I was out right of way the next week! Just not for long stretches of time

I started walking around the malls at three-four weeks old. I couldn't take being stuck in the house.

Since she was born in flu season, the doctor asked me to wait until she was 8 weeks old to reduce her exposure.

I did take her on long walks in our neighborhood starting at about 4 weeks, when the weather got nicer.

I've heard of people waiting FOREVER and then I've heard of people who had the baby out with them a week later. I would go with a combination of what your pediatritian recommends and also what you feel comfortable with. I know that my friend Nicole had her son out with her within a week of him being born. My SIL waited MONTHS. I personally don't think I could wait that long!

we went to the beach and the park 5 days after my baby was born. With my first born I was in the malls when she was 2 weeks old, I just didn't let anyone touch her. With my 2nd born, we were in the city when she was 1 week old. I can't stand being home!

Even though it's warmer in GA Jan is still cold enough. But I know I can't sit at home for so long without losing my mind

my first was a winter baby (Dec.) I would take him to the supermarket, mall. My ped. at the time said the fresh air was good for him. He wasnt really outside for prolonged periods of time (the car would be warming up while i was bundeling him up) and being from Buffalo trust me it was cold!!!!

Claire was born in Dec and it was hard to stay inside but since it was so cold out, I didnt take her out for probably about 4 weeks, aside from doctor visits and 1 or 2 trips to the inlaws.

My doctor told me it's not so much the cold but the germs. If a newborn gets a fever they automatically go back into the hospital and get a spinal tap. IMO it wasn't worth the risk. But maybe that's just my doctor's office who is so conservative.

Honestly, I was out and about with her by week #2...I was losing my mind (since it was summer) and trusted my instincts. You had to see me though the first time taking her somewhere...I looked like I was packing for the airport!

I went out the second week....but Jared was born in June.

We went out after a week. He was born in July.

My doctor told me the same thing that if the baby gets a temperature before 8 weeks he would automatically be put in the hospital and given a spinal tap. Because of this I have been very cautious. My brother told me the same thing. I know both are very conservative doctors.

However, I have been taking long walks around the neighborhood. NO supermarket or malls..

As soon as he goes for his 2 month checkup, i will be getting him out of the house more...

6 weeks before I took him to an actual store.

I got out on the weekends or after DH got home from work on the weekdays.

A week after marissa was born it was my mom's 50th b-day so we had a big family dinner at a restaurant so I brought the baby with me. I also brought her to the mall and some outting but I had a netting over the carriage so strangers don't try to touch the baby

One week... I think it was important psychologically for both of us to get out and get some air. Her ped said to take her everywhere except "the Mall, Supermarket, and Target". He also said to keep her away from children over 6 months, but newborns she could totally be around. Go figure!!!
