Craigslist
Has anyone bought/purchased anything from Craigslist? We are looking to rent out an apartment in our house and I posted it on Craigslist. Should I be careful of the people responding to this? I have never done anything with Craigslist before so its new to me!

Oh really - that's good to know. Did you have them provide you with references? It's so hard because you pretty much have a stranger living in your house with you.

We are subletting our apartment through Craigslist- I am just waiting for my management company to approve.
Also, Dh is a carpenter and advertises exclusively in Craigslist- he has great customers who have used him over and over again adn referred him to their friends. As with any ad, a few people may be shady, but mostly everyone is on the up and up.

I always meet them in person - trust my gut, and do a credit check - sometimes i check with old landlords

Yes - we got rid of the contents of my grandmother's home, listed her garage sale & rented her house from craigslist.
Just be sure to get a good security deposit.

If you check out crazedlist.org, you can check off a bunch of cities at once so you can search in your region instead of across all of craigslist. not sure how long this site will be running for but the last I checked, it's still up

Also, you may have your prospective renters talk to your husband. Do not leave your name for contact info. And when meeting in person, always have your husband with you.
I know.....common sense.
eta: My brother was living in Washington State and had to move immediately to Arizona and only had two weeks and the owners rented their house without meeting them. I guess they did a credit check.
