AMBER ALERT OVER. THE CHILD IS SAFE



FLORAL PARK -- An Amber alert was issued Sunday after it was reported that two men stole a car containing a 7-year-old child with cerebral palsy and wearing leg braces in Floral Park on Long Island.

But, as of late Sunday afternoon, Nassau police said the alert was over and the child was found safe at home.

According to Nassau County police, it was initially believed that a carjacking occurred about 1:10 p.m. in front of the Commerce Bank on Jericho Turnpike.

Nassau County Police Officer Michael Aronsen said the boy was with his mother when he was abducted.

"It appears that she was accosted . . . ," Aronsen said. "She withdrew cash from the account and then subjects left with the car that was hers with the son in the car."

Floral Park police referred questions to Nassau County police. In Albany, State Police Sgt. Mark Daniels confirmed that the amber alert had been issued for the child and two male blacks, armed with a handgun and a knife.

He said the child, identified as Jordan Powell, 7, is unable to walk. He was a passenger in the car, a 1999 Lexus G4 with New York plates CRC2225. The boy was wearing a gray sweatshirt and pants and a baseball cap.

SAW ON THE NEWS IT WAS A HOAX. The child was home the whole time!
