I need to rant about irresponsible pet owners

I just moved out of Queens and into the 'burbs, and maybe this sort of thing is done here, but it bugs me.

The people next door and the people across the street have small dogs. One is a chihuahua and the other is a mix of something.

On FIVE occasions (two with one dog, three with another) that I have witnessed and two others that DH saw, these dogs have been out, running around the neighborhood. Not in the yard, just running around. On Sunday I was working in the garden and saw one of the dogs. The owner yelled to the dog, then WENT INTO THE HOUSE, leaving the dog out. The kids came out, yelled to the dog to come in, then went about their business. The dog was still running around (these people also let a kid who looked to be about three go play in the street with a couple other kids who looked about 7, clearly they're not too bright)

I worry so much about these dogs- they are so small and while it's a side street there are still a good amount of cars driving by. And there are no street lights either. I'm so upset about this.

very very bad.

ya know.. when i lived at home we would let my Toby out in the front yard to go potty ONLY very very late at night .

We lived on a dead end with woods and he liked to go potty in the woods. ONLY at night did we allow this. and he would come back after 10 minutes.

anyway, so our neighbor complained so fine.. that was it. NO MORE letting him in the front yard.


A year later they got a dog, let is go in the fonrt and it got killed by a car!

NOW........ THEY ahve a small MAltese and they let it out in their front yard!!!!! they NEVER watch him. he came into our BACKyard at my sis b-day party and PEED on the gifts.
he is ALWAYS aorudn, doesnt listen and runs into the street and in our driveway everytime my mom is driving! she almost hit him like a 100 times!!!!!

when I was growing up, this was the norm. But, we're talking almost 20 years ago. I remember when I was 8 or 9, I saw my friend's dog near the town mini mall. I remember thinking, "hmmm. Charlie went a little far this time".

So, I called my friend when I got home, and the dog was already home. But, I think times changed shortly thereafter because they never let their next dog roam around at all.
