JT and I are curious to know how much your baby weighed at 3 months and how many ounces of formula they were taking in a day. It's a long story, that involves SIL, but any input would be great. Thanks!

Hi!

My DD was born at 6lbs 7oz and when she was 3 months she was 11 lbs 10 oz. She is now 4 months and I don't know what she's weighing now. We have our Dr. appt tomorrow. She is drinking anywhere from 4-6 oz. Sometimes only 2 oz. but she pretty much consistently drinks between 4-6. She has been doing this since 3 months.

Hayley was 13lb 5oz and 23 1/2 inches (she was born at 6lb 13oz and 18 inches) and I think she was eating around 4 ounces..

My daughter was taking around 20oz a day of BM/formula when she was 3 months. At 9 months that's still all she takes.
Every baby is different so it's hard to compare.

Ok, let me put it this way...do you think 40-48oz a day of formula is appropriate for an ALMOST 3 month old baby?

More than 40oz is waaaaay too much for a 3 month old baby. Connor got close to the 40oz range at about 4 months which is when they switched him to cereal. He probably weighed about 1o or 11 lbs then born 6lb 8oz

My daughter is 3 mos(14 weeks) and taking 6 oz ever 4 hours. 30 oz in total for the day........Probably weighs in at 13.5-14lbs now......BTW Rachel my daughter had the same exact stats as yours at birth.....

My ped would say NO -- that's way too much. Baby should not get more than 30 -32 oz per 24 hour period. If baby's still hungry, supplement with water.

Yes... if you are raising a giant! Chat Icon

OK- just re-read and realized you said a day, not meaning each feeding. But yes, it's too much!

ABSOLUTELY TOO MUCH FORMULA!!!! Babies should not have more than 32 oz. The child should be starting cereal if he/she is having that much formula

No. I believe 40oz is the max and they prefer babies stay around 32oz a day. What does the ped. say?

The ped. told her she was feeding him way too much, and that is why she is using water in between feedings. So she is DOWN to 40-48 oz., I don't know how much she was feeding him to begin with.

Kevin was born 7lbs 2 oz and at 3 months weighed in at a little over 16 lbs. He was strictly formula fed. he was drinking 32 oz a day by that time. My dr said to let him go over 32 oz in a day (I know some dr say 40 but my dr was 32) - he started wanting more than that in his 3rd month (night waking for food) and my dr suggested going with cereal early is a better option. She said levels of iron in that much formula are not good for a baby his age and there was another reason but I forget. I never gave water in between feedings - He was strictly fed every 3 hours during the day and kind was sleeping thru the night at that point.

DD weighed about 13-14 lbs at 3 months and ate 7 ounces of formula. Doctor told us she should be eating 6-7 ounces but DD seemed to like more than that.

HTH.
ETS - Julia was born 7lbs 6 oz.

Re: Ok, we're curious over here about something...mom's with babies 3mos or more....

Thanks for all the responses. We were just curious because we thought it sounded like a lot of formula. I've never seen a baby that young drink an 8 oz bottle of formula before. Plus, he went from 5lbs 12oz to 16lbs in less than three months, and I guess the jump in size threw us off.

Aly was 7 lbs 10 oz and 20 1/4 in long at birth. She was the same at her Dr appt on Mon (she was born on a Thur).

AT her 4 month check she was 24 in and 14 lbs. I think she was still eating every 2 1/2-3 hrs and up to 7 oz per bottle....leaving anywhere between 1/2 oz-2 oz over
