credit card question (annualfee)

I was wondering if anyone pays a annual fee yearly for their credit card? I just canceled mine because i think its crazy that you have to pay to use a credit card i NEVER had to before so i told them i want to waive the $20 dollars and they wouldn't They lost a vauled customer here. If its to personal of a question you dont have to answer but i am curious if its normal to pay for a annual fee for one. Thanks!

The only card, which really isn't a credit card, to charge a fee is American Express. I didn't think others did that anymore.

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

It depends on your credit. It seems to me that if you don't have great credit, you end up with a lot of offers for cards that have an annual fee.

The only card we pay a fee on is our AMEX, because we get skymilles and companion airfare with it. It was a heft fee (something like $85) but it was waived for the first year.

As for the regular Visa and MC that have fees, I usually try to stay away from them. I don't feel like I should pay a fee for paying them interest. Also, usually cards with fees have a period (30 or 90 days) in whcih you can canel and they will refund the fee. Did they refund the fee when you cancelled the card, Ro?

I only pay a fee on my AMEX. But it's technically a charge card not a credit card.

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

I don't pay fees on any of my cards, including my American Express.

Often times, it depends on how good your credit is. If you have good credit, they will offer you a fee free card, or you can ask to have it waived.

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

I have no fees on any of my cards including our card that we earn air miles on. My DH however, has 2 cards that we just talked about today in fact, that he gets fees on that he doesn't even use anymore and he is going to cancel them.

How were you able to not pay a fee on your Amex?

Well, it is a Costco rebate American Express - maybe that is why I don't pay the fee? Not sure, but I have no fee and I get a percentage of everything I spend in a rebate check that I can spend at Costco.

I also have kick-a$$ credit Chat Icon

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

We pay an annual fee for our Amex card - we get reward points though. Our other cards don't charge us. Maybe you had a rewards card?

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

Just Amex on both the sky miles 85 and the other is 29 and my credit is good too in the 700's. I do not think they waive those fee's. I tried and they wouldnt budge.

Re: credit card question (annualfee)

My husband had no so great credit and opened a creit card about a year ago with an monthly fee of $3. He recently called them up to see if they could waive the fee, and since he'd been paying the bill on time for a year, they got rid of the fee. And they even credited us one month back.
If they're not willing to waive the fee for you - it's better that you cancelled the card! There are too many out there with no fees for you to have to pay for one!

Some of the Amex credit cards don't have an annual fee (my Hilton Honors card doesn't) but some do (like the Delta skymiles) and all of the charge cards do.

Aaah..that must be it - the CostCo thing, which is pretty cool...my credit is very good too so maybe I should try and see if they'll waive the fee...

We do with our Amex. We have one with miles. The fee is small in comparison to all of the free flights we have gotten over the years.
