My Rant.....

I wish people would do a search on here before they post a topic. I get tired of seeing a topic that was posted last month, last week, a few days ago, etc... If you do your search you might get your answer without reposting the topic.

Here is my problem with the search feature.


I HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS LIFAMILES


To put it lightly... it suks bad. Two reasons for this are:


1. No "Title or Subject" search - This is a must have. If I want to search for titles regarding taxes... I would much prefer a subject search for taxes. Then I would get the threads strictly related to taxes.

Without this feature... I get all the threads that can be totally unrelated. Like someone in a "I have no money this month" thread saying.... "I am totally wiped out because I just paid my taxes".


Then my other BIGGER issue

2. What is up with the "MARKED AS IGNORED WORDS" error? What are ignored words? Can we get a list of these ignored words? This is stupid. I was looking for the "Before and After" thread in Home. I knew this was the title name. I tried searching for "Before AND After". Got the ignored words error. Then I tried just "Before". Got the error. Tried "After". Got the error. So I had to look manually for this thread. I finally found it on the 20th page!


So frankly... if you want to complain about people not using the search feature... fine. But I think to properly complain about this... you have to first fix the search feature itself.

I agree that a lot of this has to do with the Search feature not being very Robust.

There are things that I KNOW were posted about, but unless it's in the body of the text as well as the subject line you can't find it.

But then some people are lazy and don't search. So it's really a two tier approach.

I think its safe to say that both this website... and especially LIW... have a TON of valuable information available to look up.

But without a decent search feature... all this great info is wasted because we can't access it efficiently. A real shame.

Totally agree about the Search feature. I love when I THINK I know the title but nothing comes up so after 20 times of re-wording the title, I start to rack my brain for who else posted, because OF COURSE, I didn't post then, so just when I think I know someone who posted, I manage to spell their screen name WRONG, which then leads me to search for other posts they did hoping to find the RIGHT way to spell their name (ie: btrflygrl...I love you but I can never remember the y ) and when I finally find out how to spell their name, I have to search through all their posts looking for the one I want but then I can't really remember WHEN they posted so I finally decide to just give up and re-post!
