I don't know. Totally depends. Where on the Jersey Shore and what do you want to do?

Honestly-- for a nice weekend getaway I recco the Jersey Shore. I am so over the Hamptons and I think you can get a lot more for your money if you chose the right town on the JS. Anytime I have gone to the hamptons- I have stayed at a house-- so, I don't know about getting a hotel room-- but I have posted before on here about going to Cape May-- it's the perfect place for a weekend getaway.

I think it depends where you are going and what you want to do and what town you choose.

Last summer I did both for a weekend away and they were different trips. I did spend more $$ in the Hamptons but got more in Cape May (but I also went to Cape May the weekend after the labor Day). Both were fun trips.

In my 20's I had summer houses for parttying in both the NJ shore and Hamptons and both very fun but very different experience wise.

Since I have never been to either I really didn't have a town in mind.
What I am looking for is a day in the sun and then nice dinner and then out for some drinks and crazyness. Not really into going to clubs and we are all in our early to -mid 30s so we are looking for a fun bar maybe.

Re: Whats better:Hamptons or Jersey Shore?

well I can tell you with Cape May-- that you get there, you park your car and then you don't get into it until it's time to leave. I know that's not the case with the Hamptons-- I like that it's walkable-- which I know the Hamptons are not. I am not familair with other JS towns though.

You do have the beach, shops, nice restaurants and a couple of fun bars with live music every night-- mostly bands that do covers so it's a lot of fun,

Maybe is just because I live here but I think the "Hampton's" are totally overrated!

Cape May is a long drive, but it is one of DH 's and my favorite vacations. It is very relaxing, and as someone else mentioned, you can walk almost everywhere if you want to. We stayed at a place right on the ocean and just walked across the street to go to the beach.

My friends and I have a house in Mannesquan this summer....I have a half share. Hamptoms is not my scene...so this is not too much $$$ and a little more low key I think. I hear it can be cheesy...but there are 15 of us and we know two other houses of people...so looking forward to a fun summer.

depends on what part of the Jersey shore.

My MIL owns a house in Mannesquan. It's nice there. But, if you go down to Seaside Heights, it's the hell hole of the entire shore line

My family ususally gets a house in Wildwood. I personally love Avon by the Sea. It is close to Belmar if you want a night scene, but quiet in the day.
