Have you ever gotten to the point in your life..

where NOTHING was working? I barely want to get out of bed in the morning.

I took this summer class for alternate route teachers...I cannot find a job, no one will hire me without experience. I have an interview at a Catholic school on Wed but they pay way under what I make now. I know I will have to take a pay cut but I cannot take a $20k pay cut....

The other option I mentioned to my DH was subbing full time or working PT and subbing on the other days and he is not convinced we'd make enough (we own a house so I can't jeopardize that).

In the meantime, I am on thin ice at my current job. So now I figure I will just send out resumes to both teaching jobs and regular HR or admin jobs...

And to top everything off, we are now ready to TTC again...we are not putting it off bc God only knows if it will take us another 2 years...

Sorry for the whiney vent. I just do not know where to turn right now. I feel like if it does not work out with Teaching, at this point I have to give up. We can't afford for me to take chances. Chat Icon

Jen - where are you taking your summer school? Do they have a placement office that can help you? I know you have posted about this program before, but I am not 100% sure how they expect you guys to get a job if you are not certified already.

Re: Have you ever gotten to the point in your life..

I would def send all your resumes out again... sometimes during the summer, positions open up. Have you thought about pre-school at all? I am sorry this is tough for you, but i believe everything always works out for a reason. If you can't get into teaching again, why not talk to a head hunter and see what other postions you can get with your experience.

Good luck to you, everything will work out!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was at a job where I was probably going to be laid off...so I quit and went back to school. Long story short, I am not really happy with my job now. My boss is a real hard a** and is always on my back. I wish I stayed at my old job and rode it out. I don't know what to do now. I think my resume gives employers the impression that I jump from job to job- but I don't mean to.

thank you everyone Chat Icon

I haven't even started teaching yet but my CE (NJ provisional sort of license) is K-5. I am hoping if I do get the catholic school job that I can tutor, etc.

I just replied to your caholic school post before I saw this one. I know its hard...it took my 5 years to get a job in a public school on a tenure track. It's not easy but it will work out. I spent 3 years as a catholic school teacher, and 2 years as a leave replacement in public school. Teaching is one of those carriers that you have to pay a lot of dues to get where you want to be.
I don't know if this will help...but when I was in the catholic school I send out hundreds of resumes to public school districts....but I wasn't getting many calls for interviews...finally my last summer there... I got up every day and handed out resumes to local public schools. I would hand them to anyone who would take them..secrateries, principals, and even custodians if no one else was there....but I got so many calls for interviews and I ended up getting 3 job offers. They were all for leave replacements...but they were full salary and benefits and the job I took...I ended up getting a tenured slot when someone else retired. I wish you good luck... Im sure you have worked hard to get your teaching degree and it would be awful for you to give up on it now. Good luck on your interview on Wednesday....just Remember... that the catholic school can be good experience and it could lead you somewhere else down the line.

try to hang in there. If this is what you really want, it will work out. It just may take some time. It's so frustrating that you are required to have a teaching job when you have no experience. Do your advisors have any suggestions?

I'm certain things will work out in the end....and sometimes when we think things are stagnant, not going the way we'd like, not moving in the direction we think we should..there's something happening in the background getting ready to bring us what we want, need, and are waiting for.

Hang in there- its definately a tough career to break into in NY and NJ- but the benefits will be worth it in the end.

How about going for a special ed credential to make yourself more marketable? You will never be out of work and the rewards are wonderful.

I am def interested in it but you can't do it alternate route. You have to do regular ed first and then switch. Chat Icon
