Telling the Family: Am I glad this holiday is over.....
DH is THRILLED....The expression on his face when he opened the rattle was priceless. I'll go into more details at another point.
My mom is SO EXCITED. I think she was disappointed she didn't have anything "baby" to give me today! LOL !
Now MIL said "I THOUGHT YOU WERE ON BIRTH CONTROL. Isn't DAVE (DH) under enough STRESS? Now he's got to worry about supporting a baby?"
I thought I was going to burst out crying.... I think I have officially joined that "MY MIL is a PITA CLUB" You know I could see if she said that to him in private, but I'm emotional enough right now.

She has some nerve saying something like that to you! The only people worried about your financial situation should be you and DH. That is none of her business unless you let her know.
Just ignore her....she's obviously having issues letting go of her son.

Thanks. You guys made me feel a little better. DH was a little surprised - of course he wasn't in ear shot when she said this.
You know I think ever since we got engaged she has liked me less and then married less and now baby. Gee, what's going to happen when we get a dog?

I'm so sorry she ruined it for you. Just focus on DH & your mom's excitement and try to tune out the negative. Some people can be so nasty sometimes.

WOW, how rude. I would have told her if she thought it was going to be such an inconveinence, to just stay away and she doesn't have to be a part of anything. Congratulations... the only thing that matters is that you and your DH and excited. Nobody is rich when they first start out, but everything always works out in the long run!!!!

Sounds like a case of "Foot in Mouth" disease. That was well - there are no words to describe the level of stupidity. I also can't even imagine how I would have responded. My MIL is a blurter too. We have a huge MIL club.
Glad everyone was thrilled - and really once your MIL gets over the initial shock - will be just as thrilled as the rest of you.

HOW AWFUL!!! I would've been so upset too! I can't even imagine how I would have responded other than to just say that DH wanted a baby too, and money isn't the reason you decided to get PG!!! Try to put her out of your head and just enjoy everybody elses excitement for you two.

I cannot believ she said that. But i can totally sympathize my MIL would say the same exact thing, she always makes comments about things i do an how it will affect her son. I quit my job and was going to be out of a job for a while and all she was concerned about was me spending all of my dh's money. Even though i had to quit becasue we were moving beacsue of his job. So i can totally see her saying soemthing like that when i get pregnant. But i have learned to ignore herand now when she says something like that i just blow her off.

I am fine today. I just see that MIL is showing her true colors and I should be on my guard for the rest of her life. After seeing my mom's relationship with her MIL, I know what to expect !
I can't dislike her too much - she did something right - DH is the mose wondeful thing in my life. And he is so excited about the new addition.

First of all.........Congratulations!!!
I cannot believe your MIL said that. I mean "hello" doesn't she realize that she is going to have a grandchild? She should be excited!
We don't have a lot of money either but we're having a baby as well. You make do with what you have and will get by. You and DH's money situation is none of your MIL's business anyway, in my opinion. Love, health, and life are more important than anything, money does not buy happiness. Don't let her spoil your joy.

Wow that was so wrong of your mother in law to say that! Try not to think about it-focus on the people that are so happy for you!  I agree with bedda about the money situation. It's none of your MIL's business! My mother always says, if people waited to have a baby until they could afford one, you'd never have a baby! People make due.
