Jewish Holiday this weekend

So this weekend is Rosh Hoshana. I'm a yid, I observe, but I'm reform at best.

I am trying to set a meeting on Friday afternoon around 1 or 2 and I received a response back that someone cannot attend due to the Jewish holiday.

Is there something I'm missing? Do some take the day off and go to temple? I know the holiday officially begins at sundown.

Any info is appreciated.

Jews who observe leave work early that day, or take the day off. they probably want to prepare their house for the holiday dinner. and then yes, go to Synagogue.

I used to always leave early or take off for the holidays--- Now i just leave early to make it to whatever dinner I am going to.

I don't go to temple-- but, it's to get to the celebrations on time.

exactly

I'll be leaving a little early on Friday myself to prepare dinner for Friday evening. Saturday we're heading out to LI to my dad for the rest of the holiday.

that's not unusual. he might be Orthodox or just very observant. or... since it falls on a Friday, he may just want to get a 3 day weekend in.

I have someone down the hall from me that is orthodox, and I know he won't be here on Friday.

Also, maybe is wife wants him home to help! Chat Icon My mother used to make my father take the day off to help her prepare.

Maybe he is travelling somewhere for the holiday and needs to make it there before sundown, or he is having people to his home and needs to prepare.

I'm leaving work at 3:30 to get to my ILs.
