Weekend ideas-not the hamptons or Fire Island.
Hi,
I am looking for ideas for this coming weekend for a getaway for my DH, 4mth DD and myself...dont want to spend all weekend driving...
Are there any good places to go on LI that are not obvious weekend places like the hamptons or Fire Island?

Does that mean Montauk, Sag Harbor would be out? How about taking a ferry over to CT? Mystic?

Yeah...all the hamptons are out....because I live out here....trying to get away from it for a weekend. Just figured there has to be more to LI than the hamptons!

Greenport is great! My parents have a place out there - we went last weekend - there are vineyards, a little town to walk in, parks and beaches for the kids, great food and a new spa and hotel out there called the greenporter. Plus if you stay there - or in town - everything is pretty much walking distance.
You can also take a 5 min. ferry ride to Shelter island which is beautiful.
I highly recommend it.
eta: I just read that you live in the hamptons...you can take the ferry to shelter island from there - then drive to the other side and take the ferry to greenport - I do it often - it's a nice drive -maybe 45 min. door to door.

Thanks for all the replies and ideas...I am really looking for somewhere we havent gone to before, we have done the north fork, shelter island, block island etc tons of times...I guess I was just wondering if there are any places on l.island that are worth checking out...what about oyster bay or any other places on the north shore?

A nice getaway on Long Island... I'd explore 3 areas further west:
1 - Port Jefferson Village
2 - Northport Village
Both offer great towns with quaint shops, nice restaurants and near the water.
3 - Wading River/Riverhead offers Splish Splash; Atlantis Marine World and Tangier for shopping.
