Passport drama!!!!! eta: FIGURED IT OUT IN ANYONE WANTS INFO : )

I need to get a passport!
I only have a NY STate id..not a drivers license cause i dont drive...

So when i go to the post office I am told I can only have a drivers license.... no id even if its official from NY!!!! BUT I DONT DRIVE!!!!!!!!!!!

so I hafta bring a driver who has known me for 2 years to sign a witness form that i am, who i say i am!!!

All post offices that I can find remotely close to me are only open Monday to Friday! How can i do this in the middle of the day!! Y does this need to be so difficult! You would think a NY id card would be just as good as a NY drivers license..oyyy vey! vent over!

ETA: ROOSEVELT FIELD HAS LIKE THE ONLY POST OFFICE OPEN ON THE WEEKEND...SUPPOSE i CAN DO SOME SHOPPING WHILE I GO THERE

Yeah, that happend to a friend of mine before he drove. I don't know why State Id's don't count--they come from the DMV too.

The person has to have a driver's license & a passprot too I think ( I couldn't go with him, b/c I didn't have a passport then)

You should be aware that accepting a person who is vouching for your identity is at the discretion of the Department of State employee.

DH needed photo id right before we left for our honeymoon. He couldnt' get a DMV one because it was already ordered. We opted for a passport. I went down with him - had my drivers license, passport & notary card. He had medical cards, union cards, photo id from work with his name on it. After waiting online for 2 hours, the agent would not accept them. She said that I dont' know where I read that it was an option to have someone vouch for my identity. I pointed to the form where it indicated that was an option & she said it's up to her discretion. Have no idea what her problem was. I explained that I was a notary, showed her all the documentation I had. Finally, I asked to speak to a supervisor and said we're not leaving without a passport.

She said "Have someone fax me a picture of his YEARBOOK with his name on it. I need something with a photo and the company id is not sufficient".

We had his friend fax her 9th grade year book page with his photo. I COULD NOT BELIEVE that was acceptable. In my yearbook, they printed someone else's picture under a memoriam for a girl that died. It's put together by 15 year olds! At that point, we just got the passport & got out. And we wonder why people on a terrorist watch list used to be able to fly about the country.

Ok that is total BULL- you CAN GET YOUR PASSPORT WITH JUST A PHOTO ID FROM DMV-- DH DID IT----- and it was done in the Roosevelt Field Mall too!!!!!!!! the passport agency called us and they wanted more info so he sent a copy of his year book picture and high school graduation certificate!!! that was all, they asked for other stuff like work photo id or school id but he doesnt have either of them.

Michelle I would go back and scream at them where they told you, you couldnt!!!!! DH just got his in June.
