Baby Cereal Warning!!
A couple of months ago, (sorry I'm posting now but I'm semi-new to LIF) I had the most disgusting thing happen to me and almost, my baby.
I was preparing my then 10 month old's breakfast of fruit and a box of brand new factory sealed Gerber Rice cereal. When I poured the cereal into his bowl, I noticed some dark flakes. Upon further inspection, I realized they were TINY SHRIVELED UP WORMS!!! I screamed and gagged because there were literally HUNDREDS (I poured the rest out into a large paper dish to examine). I then opened his Gerber Oatmeal which also was facvtory sealed in the plastic wrap and brand new. It TOO had a million little dead worms. I called the Gerber 1-800 # listed on the box and I was a raving lunatic. The woman was VERY nice and explained to me that Gerber inspects everything that leaves their plant and that the infestation (eww...some type of worm that burrows into cardboard containing grain products) probably occurred on the shelf in the store it was bought. (Which was Pathmark in Franklin Square). She said she would immediately send out a recall (on my boxes ups code) and she told me to throw out ALL of my cereal. She also sent me 4 coupons for free cereal.
So, word of caution...always inspect your baby's food. They were so microscopic, my dh would NEVER have seen them!!!

WOW, never happened to me but def will look very carefully next time

That is so nasty! Also everyone should know that the glue that they use to seal the boxes supposedly (according to my mom) attracts bugs. My mom is a big proponent for transfering everything into tupperware.

Ew! Gross- I have had this happen with pasta or rice though. So, I guess maybe it had been on the shelf at Pathmark for a looooong time.
