I need a dress for a black tie wedding...HELP!
I need a dress for a Sat. night black tie wedding.
First, where can I go to find a dress. I want something really classy but sexy. Also, does it have to be a floor length gown since it's black tie?

i would go to Bloomies
and IMO yes it should be floor length or at least calf

My friend's wedding was a few weeks ago and it was black tie and I don't remember seeing that many in a long gown. I think you can get away wearing either.

My friend's wedding was a few weeks ago and it was black tie and I don't remember seeing that many in a long gown. I think you can get away wearing either.
My mom didn't wear a floor length dress to that wedding and it was Black Tie Perferred. She got her dress at Lord & Taylor, it was black satin and t-length... very classy and appropriate.
Bloomies is a great place to start, Lord & Taylor also has a lot of options too!!

I went to a black tie wedding in August that was on Saturday night. Very few ladies were wearing floor length dresses. I went in a regular black coctail dress and didn't stick out. DH rented a tux but there were a lot of guys there with dark suits on.

Most of our friend's weddings were black tie, or at least black tie optional. I didn't see very many gowns either - I think they're just not as much in style as they used to be. I wouldn't wear a cocktail dress but I think a t-length is fine.
Oh, and I agree - Bloomingdale's is the best for dresses.
