I agree! While I would probably be annoyed about it... I would invite her. It is not worth the fight. Besides, she may not even come.

We always invited my aunt's (by marriage) sister to family parties. They were both widowed and lived together. I think inviting her would be the kind thing to do and it is only one more person.
I also wouldn't want to make a big deal about it with your MIL. It sounds like there are plenty of other things you can argue about with her.

I just feel like other people in the family (who werent invited) will feel insulted....
If I say we kept it to close family only because we wanted to keep it small- they'd understand- but others may not understand why they were uninvited, and she was... KWIM?
