Ques. about Property Taxes

This is probably a stupid ques. but I'm a novice Chat Icon
If your house is on a dead end street, would your taxes be higher than if the same house were not on a dead end street?

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

from my experience Dead ends, and corner houses have slightly higher taxes. We asked our broker about this, because the agent stated that houses on MAIN streets would have the higher taxes and they had no answers for us. My Aunt bought a house ( had it built) on a dead end and her taxes were $800 more a year then the same house two blocks away on a non dead end. NO idea why...so I think its a chance, but it also may not be and if it is, its not going to be a considerable amount IMO.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

Good question. I don't know the answer.

But I do know that corner lots have slightly higher taxes. Usually they have a little more property. My DH said it is because they have 2 sidewalks, but I can't see what that would be. The homeowner is responsible for the sidewalk anyway.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

I would think not, but it could vary depending on the town you are in.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

I think the age of the house also has something to do with it.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

If anything, being on a dead-end would raise the value of the selling price more than the taxes.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

We live on a dead end & our taxes are higher than other comps in our neighborhood that are not on the dead ends.

ETA: It also did raise the value on the appraisal too.

Re: Ques. about Property Taxes

Our residence is on a dead end - and we own rental houses on the next street (not a dead end - it's actually a cut-through street. Our residence is the nicest and largest in house and property of our houses (by far), and yet it's the lowest in taxes.Chat Icon A little inconsistency? I'm not sure that there's a rule of thumb...
