why do I have to love little, expensive dogs???
With big potential medical problems.
I fell in love with the cutest Havanese, but I looked into them, and like the other breed tiny dogs, they too have the potential for problems.
Anyone else scared of medical troubles?
(Don't get me wronge I want a bigger dog too, but I want my own tiny dog to cuddle)

Its not really just tiny dogs. Big dogs get problems too.
Every breed has its own common problems. If you are really worried you should think about getting a mutt. You can still get a tiny mutt. They arent as likely to suffer from these problems.
Small dogs often get luxation pateller in their legs/knees.

I honestly would love to adopt. But for now (renting) I need a dog that will not get big and when you get a mut/animal league they can't guarantee the breed.
I guess you are right about all dogs having problems too. I would hate to get my pooch and they get sick in a short amount of time.

look on petfinder.com. There are full breed dogs who need homes and they may be in good health, just that the person was moving, elderly etc and couldn't keep them

My mom has a Havenese. She is adorable, we love her so much. She's just over a year but so far my mom hasn't run into any medical problems. If you really want her, maybe you could look into pet insurance?

a friend of mine has a Havanese and she's had no problems thusfar.
I got my "designer mutt" a pug/beagle (puggle) mix on petfinder. He's about 35-40 lbs but small enough to be a lap dog and he's SUPER cuddly.
There are plenty of purebreeds on petfinder as well, and if you want to ensure you'll get a small dog, adopt an older one, one that is done growing. Check with vets offices too, they often have animals for adoption.

I'll try, I"m pretty bad at posting pics. I only have one of her on my computer, here it goes....
She was only a month or so old when this pick was taken. She's about 7 lbs. now.

first think of the small breed you want, then you can go through a rescue organization or breeder.
if you want a chihuahua lets say, well, there are a million of chihuahua rescue orgs, so you ARE guarenteed what breed it is.
otherwise, you can go through a reputable breeder. On AVG a dog should be $600

really? the ones I like seem to be closer to $1000+, but they are at places I would not purchase from  But would LOVE to rescue from those people!!!

until I move, I can't make a final decission. but I love the tiny flufy ones like havaneses
DEF want a good breeder. I would never want to support those bad stores...but would love to rescute them from them!

You can do a search on petfinders.com
Some animal shelters have many small dogs up for adoption.
Try Animal Haven in Queens and Little shelter in Huntington. Also, try the cacc.
