Needy post
I found out through one of my co-workers that a certain big boss was leaving his position/the firm.
I asked my boss about the rumor and she was devastated that it had gotten out. She felt really bad and is telling the head of the department about the rumor.
I had to name names and I feel really bad and I hope she doesn't divulge her sources. I wasn't the only person that told her this. I don't want to give up the trust of my co-worker.
My boss said that she wouldn't tell where she got the info and I'm nervous. She is really upset that the rumor got out and I feel terrible and told her I should have kept my mouth shut.
She was glad to know though since she can try to operate in crisis control mode.
I don't know what to do if anything. I feel terrible for betraying a trust, but I thought she should know.
I think I did the right thing..
I still feel terrible.

My other boss heard the rumor from someone else and he named names too..so I felt safe..but now seeing her reaction made me feel like it was a mistake.

At the end of the day it is the person, whom is most likely higher up, who opened their mouth in the first place. I have found this out the hard way myself by telling things to a few people in confidence. If you don't want something to get out then don't talk. I don't think it is your fault at all.

Thanks...most likely my boss' boss probably heard this already from somewhere else..
My nature is to be really paranoid.
I just hope it all blows over.

my co-worker doesn't know I said anything..but by the time my boss talks to her boss I bet it will be all over the place.
