Pink Eye anyone?

Has anyone had pink eye, and if so what are the main symptoms (other than the obvious, your eyes being incredibly pink/red Chat Icon)

I have been having reddness/irriated eyes since last week and thought it was just my contact.. but now the past couple days they have been AWFUL. They are completely RED/PINK I can hardly keep them open, and this morniing they were just so painful. I find nI am sensitive to light and they feel so heavy/sore

I did have pink eye YEARS ago (when I was in HS) but I really dont remember it, this does not seem the same?

Any advice is helpful (and yes I am going to see my doctor, but he is only in his office on Friday.. so I have to wait it out Chat Icon)

I know that if it is pink eye it is highly contagious but I'm still not sure if that is it?

Re: Pink Eye anyone?

if you have pink eye, it really would be a lot of mucus and crusties in the morning (gross I know).

I'd keep it rinsed with eye wash and keep your hands and makeup away until you see the doctor.

Yeah it's gross but when you have pink eye you know it because -- especially in the morning when you first get up -- you have lots and lots of "eye crispies" (as DH calls them). You'll have to trash your contacts.

The sensitivity to light could be the pink eye also but actually if you don't have the extra crispies in the am, you probably have a scratch on your cornea from your lenses. That's the big symptom of a scratch. With a scratch you are more teary than muscousy. Either way - hate to tell ya but those contacts have to come out NOW because they just make it worse. I hope you have glasses nearby because you won't be able to keep your lenses in for at least 3 days!

It *****, I've been there (and I DESPISE wearing my glasses) so I hope you feel better soon!! The Dr. might give you eye drops to help relieve some of the discomfort but don't be surprised if they say you just have to wait for it to heal on it's own (if it's a scratch).

Re: Pink Eye anyone?

Ugh this just s*cks. Truly I have such a high tolerance for discomfort/pain and I'm so not a complainer, but when it comes to my eyes I just cannot take any pain or sensitivtiy Chat Icon

I really dont think its pink eye, I do have a bit of eye crud in the AM but mostly its just this heaviness, painful feeling and SUCH extreme reddness that I was shocked to look at my eyes today in the mirror..

Sandra I am not even sure its a scratched cornea, since its BOTH eyes that are equally painful. so I might just have some sort of infection but just not sure what. And I have disposable lenses and I already tossed the pair i'd been wearing, and I've been wearing my glasses today and NO makeup (and my eyes w/out makeup is a scary sight) so YUP boy does it s*CK...

Thanks for all the advice everyone Chat Icon

Re: Pink Eye anyone?

I had the crusties too and my eyes were red and kind of itchy. I got it the first semester away at college in the dorm......a bunch of us got it Chat Icon

Throw away all the eye makeup you used regularly before you got it. You wouldn't want to risk re-infecting yourself.

I use to get pink eye a number of times for a few years back. I literally had to walk to the bathroom to wash my eye so that it could open up there was that much crust on it.

If you do have it get rid of all your make up that touches your eyes mine kept coming back until i realized this.

You might also have an eye infection. Different then pink eye but causes sensitivity to light and pinkness - they have a drop you can put into your eyes to make you feel better. Chat Icon

Oh, if it's both eyes then yeah, it could be some kind of infection. Chat Icon Well, you did good by keeping the eye makeup off and changing the contacts. Hope you feel better soon! Chat Icon

I had it several times, with me, besides the redness, it felt like there was a grain of sand in my eye, and my lashes would be stuck together when I got up in the morning. Chat Icon
