Boy, 12, dies on Disney coaster
Thursday, June 29, 2006; Posted: 3:02 p.m. EDT (19:02 GMT)
MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- A 12-year-old boy died on a roller coaster at Disney-MGM Studios in Orlando, Florida, on Thursday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.
Disney could not be reached for comment, and few details were available.
The boy was unresponsive in his seat at the end of the Rock 'N' Roller coaster ride, said Terry McElroy of the Florida Department of Agriculture, which regulates the industry.
The boy was given CPR and taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Authorities don't know at this time if he was riding by himself or with family members.
The incident occurred at 11:30 a.m. Disney reported the accident to Florida police at 1 p.m.
Disney shut down the ride and an inspector was on site to observe the Disney investigation. The Orange County Sheriff's Office is conducting an investigation as well.
Disney boasts of the ride on its Web site, "Zoom from 0-60 mph with the force of a supersonic F-14, take in high-speed loops and turns synchronized to a specially recorded Aerosmith soundtrack and zip through Tinseltown in the biggest, loudest limo you've ever seen."
One month ago, another child died on the Disney ride "Mission Space" at the Epcot Center.

Why are there two different ages given for this boy?
I see CNN says 12, but MSN and Channel 2 say 7.

According to CNN, the boy complained feeling ill AFTER the ride and did not die on the ride. I think the reporting of the stories are inconsistent. Regardless, it is a tragedy and may he rest in peace.

OMG, I love that ride!!!

You know I have to tell you, some of these rides are dangerous, I swear I was sick very sick after going on mission to mars- I dont know if its still around, there were many people getting sick from that ride too. So scary.
I totally agree with you about some rides including mission to mars. But the rockin roller coaster is VERY tame compared to others. Its a small indoor rollercoaster that's in the dark. It reminds me of skull mountain at great adventure. I cant understand what went wrong.

That's so sad.
It's a little more intense than skull mountain, in that it does have about 3 loops, but you're right it's not THAT intense
ANOTHER child died on M:S a month ago? I had no idea.

Actually the article said that it was a 49-yr old woman that died on M:S in April.
And DH wonders why I HATE coasters.
I feel so badly for the family.

Actually the article said that it was a 49-yr old woman that died on M:S in April.
I remember that, I thought one of the above exceprtps mentioned that a child had died a month ago.

oooh I missed that. I personally freaked on M:S. Not fun for me at all. But then again I freaked during the Bug's Life show too when it felt like ants were crawling up my legs, so we can't go by me

to this day, FH and I cannot sit back on the seats. HAHA
I love M:S!
but I can totally understnad why it's to intense for some people. Once we went on it twice in a row. BIG mistake. We were sooo sick

I must say I love Disney and I think their rides have probably some of the best safety standards. I think most of the accidents that occur have to do with either known or unknown pre-existing conditions. Either way it is very sad

This is so sad. Unfortunately, I believe that in most of these cases there must have been an undetected heart condition.
I love the rockin roller coaster. Mission Space made me sooo nauseous!

What a horrible thing to happen
I went on the space ride at Epcot last year and it was the worst experience ever. I can see how someone with a preexisting condition could have problems on it.
