Do bank branches compete??
Like the same bank but in different towns? Do they got bonuses if more people sign up for things at their branch??

yes...
all soughts of contest they have, region, locally, just the branch it self. it really depends on the bank but most do

Yes, part of my friends job is actually "spying" on neighboring banks. Pretend to be a customer and see what each bank offers then reports back to her bank with the results.
