Another question for the SAHMs

How long are you planning to be a SAHM? Just until your baby start pre - k, kindergarten, till college, etc? Also, do you plan to finish all your child bearing before returning to work or will you return to work in between babies?

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

I'm not sure yet whether or not we're having 2, but I wouldn't return to the corporate world until I was done and all my kids were in school ft. I may go back and do something pt and night while dh can watch him maybe in the summer (just to get out) but I'm not sure yet...

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

probably wont go back full time between kids because we are thinking 2-3 years is going to be the space inbetween our kids and then we are probably having like 2 or 3 kids- then I plan on going back when they start pre-k either part time or full time- full time def when they are both in school for full days.

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

Our current plan is for me to be a FT SAHM until all of our kids are in school all day and then I have an idea for a home based business that I'd work on while they are in school.

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

I just fininshed going to school to become a nutritionist and i am going back 16hrs a week. I make my own schedual and i work 3 minutes from home. I wanted to be a full time SAHM but the money i am making is great. I also am starting to go a little stir crazy. My DH will be watching the baby while i go to work for 3-5 hours a day. The extra money will be great because we are trying to dormer the upstairs of our new home.

I am pretty much in the same situation. I make excellent money being a pharmacist so its almost silly for me not to work just a little bit. Right now I am going back 1 day a week on the weekend and DH will stay with Miranda. When she's a little bit older I may pick up another shift or two then once baby #2 comes I'll do like I did this time and take an extended amount of time off and go back slowly.
The little bit of extra money will help us go on vacations, out to dinner, save a little more, etc.
When my kids are in school FT I will probably still only work PT so that I can be an involved mom with school activities and after school stuff.

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

I had always said I would go back to work once I am finished having kids and they are all in school. But lately I've been thinking that won't be true. ONce they are involved in activities and such, I think I would want to be more involved. I can forsee my self driving them to sports, band practice etc. for some time. I just don't see myself going back to work. The good thing is though that I can work for myself - I am in the engineering consulting business and I am licensed and registered. All I would have to do is get professional liability insurance. So its something for me to think about.

Re: Another question for the SAHMs

I guess I am in the minority but I don't have plans on going back to work. Once my kids are in school I want to have the time to be involved with their activities, go on field trips, help with homework etc. Once Alex is out of HS I will have been out of work for 20 years. I can't imagine going back to the workforce after all that time. Although, I have considered possibly doing real estate or something p/t but I really have no desire as of now.

My mom went back to work when I was 19!! She didn't need any extra training. She is a secretary by trade.

That is great, I have an accounting degree so I am sure I could find work doing something. I think by that time, I will enjoy being a SAHW and doing somethings for myself Chat Icon

I'm sure you will have no problem. Enjoy staying home now. I work FT unfortunately but enjoy working and getting out of the house, especially on Monday mornings-lol!
