Contractor vent - didn't show up

We had an appt to have our bathroom reglazed this morning at 9am. Which would mean us not being able to use the bathroom for the weekend, etc. A lot of rearranging. So as of last night, no phone call to confirm. I called and left a VM. This morning no phone call. I took everything out of my bathroom nonetheless...

My DH calls me this morning and says the guy can't come but can come on 9/25 (A Monday!) How am I supposed to get ready for work. I want to call him and say the deal is off. Thank God we did not put any $$ down.

Why do contractors do this??!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would definately find someone else. This happened to me last weekend with a roofer. He called three days later to say that he thought our appointment was on another day, and can I call him to reschedule. I did not return the phone call, and hired someone else.

Re: Contractor vent - didn't show up

Welcome to my life! I had a contractor DISAPPEAR for a week in the middle of a HUGE job in my house. I had 2 gutted rooms (1 was the kitchen) and my son was 1 1/2. No phone call...nothing!!!
My DH had to go to Brooklyn to the guys house and leave a note on his door threatening a law suit!
I swear, there are some low-life contractors out there!!

Good luck!!Chat Icon

Re: Contractor vent - didn't show up

My # vent about contractors and service people in NY. I've had them show up to review the job, promise to send an estimate, and never send it, or just never show to even discuss the job. I've left messages and they don't even bother to call back. Are they really that busy or just crappy at running a business????

On the other hand, I'm giving 5 stars to the tree sprayer we contacted. He called back the next day, and apologized for not calling the day I left the massage. His wife had just had triplets and he got home at 6:00 AM! He promised to stop by during the week to look at the trees and he did!!! Despite being a new dad with triplets - kudos to him!!!!

I hate contractors. They are so unreliable. One minute they are great the next not showing up or calling to even say they are not showing up just plain rude. Esp when you rec someone to them and they do this to themChat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Contractor vent - didn't show up

The good ones are busy because they do show up and do good work. the bad ones seem to just not care about repeat business or recommendations.

I think they also overbook sometimes in order to make sure they are keeping busy enough to make a living. I might give a guy a second chance, but after that, I would find someone else.

Again ladies, I will RAVE about my contractor! NEVER did they not show up when they said (and this job has been going on for almost 2 months)...He always keeps us updated as to what they're doing next, etc. I hear so many horror stories, but I guess I Just lucked out!!!

I absolutely hate when this happens.Very unprofessional and I would not let him do the job! I've been left in the middle of a disaster before and some of them just don't care! Good luck on finding a reliable person, they are out there.

I'm using Kadlec Construction. They're in Port Jeff Station but work all over the Island. I seriously will sing their praises to anyone. They have been nothing but fantastic.
