Spin off from oil price lock in thread.

How will you conserve oil this winter?
What temp will you keep the thermostat?
How will you weather proof the house?

Any creative ways to save?

...and finally who how many "snuggling to keep warm" babies will be coming next year?Chat Icon

We plan to weather strip all of the windows, with extra attention to our older windows, close the heat vents best we can in rooms that we won't use. Keep all of the room doors closed. Cover the bottoms of exterior doors to keep drafts out (but not with something cheesy) Extra blankets in the bedroom and in the den, maybe an extra small heater for the fish tank. Warm socks are a must too.

We will use a programmable thermostat and keep the temp during sleeping low - maybe 65, 68 while we are awake and somewhere between 63-65 during the day when we are at work. Do these numbers sound about right? Brrrrrrrrr! I guess I should enjoy the summer while I can and let's all hope for a LONG Indian summer.

Unfortunatly with 2 small kids its hard to keep the house as an ice box!!! BUT We are getting a new oil burner to save $$$. Lots of warm sweaters and sock and pants. Putting a sheet up at the top of our stairs to keep the heat downstairs, turning off the radiators in the rooms we don't use. Anything because this is going to be an expensive winter!

I am dreading this winter so much with these oil prices! Especially since i am due to deliver my first baby in December. Which means I will need the house warm with a newborn. So if its too ridiculous, I may just go to my mother in laws house till March! Anything to save some $$$
