Kinda morbid ques, for the jewish families
We just came back from visiting FH's grandparents in FL, neither is doing well and they just recommended hospice care for grandma.
I know this is really morbid, but we're already thinking ahead to going down there for the funeral and shiva.
Doug feels guilty that we ay not be able to be there for all 7 days as we have been for local relatives. What is customary for attending shiva for out of state relatives.

The rabbi usually talks to the family about the length of shiva. Your FH as a grandson may not have the same rules as his dad. I don't believe he is required to sit shiva for 7 days. I've all my grandparents and never sat shiva. My mom and dad did, but an abbreviated shiva for 3 days.
You can go be with them for a few days, but I don't believe 7 days is required.

The rabbi usually talks to the family about the length of shiva. Your FH as a grandson may not have the same rules as his dad. I don't believe he is required to sit shiva for 7 days. I've all my grandparents and never sat shiva. My mom and dad did, but an abbreviated shiva for 3 days.
You can go be with them for a few days, but I don't believe 7 days is required.
I don't think grandchildren are one of the 7 relatives required to sit shiva at all. I'm just wondering culturally...
I figured you usually get off 3 days for mourning, so maybe we could take off an extra day to be there for 3-4 days.

Not at all..let him do what makes him comfortable, but he is certainly not bad..
