Headaches from epidural
Did anyone get headaches from a side effect of an epidural?

No and 7 of my friends have recently had babies and an epidural and no one had any side effects at all.
The epidural is your friend

Re: Headaches from epidural
I just had to ask, I have heard it does happen, I am very prone to headaches, so I wanted to see what the consensus was. Thanks

No, thank goodness. I had heard about getting a bad headache as a possible side effect of the epi, but I luckily didn't get one- I am also prone to headaches. Apparently there is something they can do if you DO get a severe headache after it is administered. I believe they inject some of your blood into the epidural space & it apparently gets rid of it.

Re: Headaches from epidural
nope...I was fine unless being VERY hungry after labor/delivering is a side effect of the epi.

YES! It made my whole experience a nightmare and really contributed to my baby blues. It's called a spinal headache but the funny thing is it's not in your head it's in your neck and spine. I could not sit up or walk and had to lay down flat. I got talked out of getting the blood patch before leaving the hospital so I went home with my baby in this condition. Needless to say three days later I went to the ER and had it done. I felt so much better immediately and was upset I didn't have it done before leaving the hospital so I wouldn't have missed out on taking care of Roman. My Dr. said they see it maybe once a week. I was the lucky one that week

Re: Headaches from epidural
I didn't, but they kept telling me not to lift my head after I gave birth, because I kept trying to peek at her while they stitched me up..

This happened to me-I guess I was a "lucky" one. I had SEVERE head and neck pains and I was vomiting every time I stood up. I had to go back to the ER 4 days postpartum and had a blood patch and my headaches went away instantly. They took 20cc;s of blood from my arm and injected it into where my epidural was. I went home soon after but ended up getting an infection and spiked a fever of 105 that night and was RE-admitted to the hospital for another week of IV antibiotics. It was so tough on me to be away from my baby at that time. BUT-I would still definately get an epidural with my next

Re: Headaches from epidural
No headaches for me. I did get a wierd pain at the site, kind of like a twinge, for awhile after. It was not bad to make the epi not worth it though.

Re: Headaches from epidural
I didn't have the epidural but have a few friends that did and had headaches. I thought it had something to do with where the epidural was put in??

Re: Headaches from epidural
I had a spinal, so it is a bit different. But this can be serious so you need to alert your doctor.

Re: Headaches from epidural
Yes, they were horrible. I opted for the blood patch 2 days after giving birth to my son and within an hour or so, it was totally gone.

Re: Headaches from epidural
I got them from the spinal from my c-section. I had chronic headaches for about 2 months. Now I am back to getting them as much as I did pre pregnancy which is still often enough
