I am such an idiot when it comes to this...
I know nothing about the buying process AT ALL. I understand nothing either!
I was wondering..if we were looking for a 2 or 3 family home...(we may buy with my immediate family) do we just tell the real estate agent that?? Such a stupid question I know, but I really have no idea!

I would- this way they can look for you in addition to the looking you do on your own (via the 'net, etc.) When we were looking our agent would e-mail us whenever something came on the market in our price range and in the area we wanted.

Most definitely... Your real estate agent needs to know exactly what kind of houses you are interested in. This will help them plus so you will not waste any time on seeing houses you are not interested in!
3 family house

if you search on realtor.com or mlsli.com you can select properties that are multifamily, then you can get ideas of what types of homes are available.
