Re: health insurance question.

Yes and yes. Pregnancy is not considered a pre-existing condition if thats what you mean. As far as maternity leave I was told by my job that you can take 4 weeks before the baby is born and an additional 6(vag. birth) or 8(c-section) weeks. You get paid by disability 60% of your salary.

Re: health insurance question.

It really depends on your company. You can receive disability insurance (if you have) while you are pregnant, but most disability insurance policies do not cover more than a few weeks after the birth. Each office has their own maternity policy.

As for your baby's health insurance, I woudl call the company directly and let them know you are pregnant. For me, my insurance covers it, but I have to pay for the insurance after the baby is 30 days old - its an office policy.

If your company employes more than 50 employees, you are covered for Family Medical Leave Act. Here is some info on FMLA:

FMLA Coverage

At the least, all covered employers (typically employers of over 50 workers) must provide eligible employees up to 12 weeks of unpaid FMLA leave during any 12 month period. The Family and Medical Leave Act was enacted in 1993. Since then, the FMLA has provided eligible workers with unpaid time off to meet family responsibilities, such as caring for a new baby or an adopted child, or for looking after a sick child, spouse, or parent. In addition, your employer must give you your job back or give you another job with equivalent pay and benefits.

How it Works:

Under the Family and Medical Leave Act, covered employers must grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 work weeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the following reasons:

for the birth and care of the newborn child of the employee
for placement with the employee of a son or daughter for adoption or foster care
to care for an immediate family member (spouse, child, or parent) with a serious health condition
to take medical leave when the employee is unable to work because of a serious health condition.
Who's Eligible:

An FMLA eligible employee is an employee who has been employed by the employer for a least 12 months and worked at least 1,250 hours.

The 12 months do not need to be consecutive. You are only an eligible employee if your employer employs 50 or more employees within 75 miles of the worksite.

Re: health insurance question.

you should call the insurance company to notify them at least about being PG.

I did not...and I found out at 15 weeks that my insurance has a Pregnancy Management PGM where they waive the $250 deductible and send out info and the book Your Pregnancy Week By Week (for free) AND they call me every few weeks just to see how everything is going.
I was supposed to enroll in the first trimester to get the deductible waived....we're still trying to get them to let it slide.

Some insurance companies might require you to notify them ASAP.
