Does anyone know how many hours an 8 week old should sleep total? My mom thinks my baby is awake too much and that i should call the ped When I add up his sleep, he sleeps 12-13 hours a day.

Re: sleep question
funny that you posted this! I JUST called the ped. about this this AM! I am having problems getting my 7 week old to sleep! he said she should sleep a minimum of 12 hrs a day. HTH!
DD is sleeping more of the 12 during the day than at night and the last 2 or 3 days - she is keeping herself up during the day as well. ugh.

Re: sleep question
same over here. hannah is still only sleeping in 2-3 hr increments at night, and then taking 20 min naps during the day. i think b/c she was 5 weeks early, she is still so small her body needs to be fed more frequently until she gains more.

Re: sleep question
I know all too well what you are going through. Mine is the same way. He actually napped today cuz he went to the doctor's and had 4 shots. But he sleeps during the night. He gets up once or twice but otherwise he'll sleep during the night.
But generally he stays up during the day. I have to force him into a nap otherwise he'll become very cranky. Sometimes I just let it be. They are supposed to sleep 10-12 hours within 2 24 hour period.
But every baby is different and they are not going to follow the textbook rules. I've heard that the older they get the less they will nap. So I don't know how they are supposed to sleep for these many hours.

Re: sleep question
Sometimes mine will have a six ounce bottle and he still won't nap right away after that.
he usually takes 4 ounces and is 2 months old.
