Non-Baby foods for a 10-month old who is milk intolerant

What kind of non-baby foods can I start Kevin on?

I just started with the puffs but he's not too thrilled with them.

Scrambled egg yolks?

Tiny pieces of meat? What kinds and how do you cook them?

Pastina? Is it like spaghetti? How do you serve it?

(You can see I'm totally clueless and I forgot to bring this up with his dr. at his last checkup!)

I'm wondering the same thing, Julia and Kevin are the same age and I've been giving Julia gerber puffs, bitter biscuits & fruit (in the feeding net) & cheerios. I wasn't sure when I should start on meats, and other stuff. I'm looking for suggestions too!

ETA: Julia isnt lactose intolerant, so I guess it wont help me much.

Some suggestions that my daughter likes: Tofu, Peas, Black Beans, Wheat Bread (watch the ingrediants for milk powder), canned diced peaches, grapes (peeled and quartered), rice cakes

Is he just lactose intolerant or does he have a milk allergy? Cole is Lactose intolerant, he's on soy milk, but most prepared foods are OK.
We started with pancakes, whole wheat blueberry waffles, lots of fruits put through the food mill, and his favorite Edamame (soy beans in the frozen food section). We also make oatmeal and mac and cheese with soy milk. Veggies I started with the frozen mixed veg. (peas, carrots beans) and boiled them in chicken broth then cut them and fed them on a spoon. He wasnt a big fan of pastina and it was really messy, but I cooked that in chicken broth too. The best thing in the beginning was the pancakes (and I tried to always add blueberries or bananas)

edited to add -- we started chicken much later (around 12 months) -- I just pick it into litlle tiny pieces. I've prepared it all different ways - steamed and grilled mostly or the price club rotisserie.

I'm so glad you asked this. Sidney has a milk allergy (9 months old) and I feel cruel eating in front of her cause all she wants is what I am eating but i am afraid of what I can give her. I am seeing her pediatric allergist on Wednesday and their nutritionist so hopefully i will have better answers then.

DS could eat bananas, avacados and cheerios all day if I let him. They get messy, but he loves them so much.


I have tried cooking baby carrots so they are easier to chew and cut them up into little pieces. Same with green beans.


Most bland things that I eat, I cut up into little pieces (my ped said the size of the tip of their pinky, but I do smaller) - chicken, potatoes, he's even had some filet mignon!

I knew there was another mom that posted about milk allergies so I did a search.

You may want to try FM'ing/posting directly to emilain. She posted on the introduce yourself post as having experience with milk allergies & her kids are older.

are you sure that he still has the milk allergy? Bryan had it pretty severe starting at about 3 months and at this point ( 10 months) he had had things with milk incredients and been fine. We still give him ALimentum formula because the regular formula would be too much for him but foods with milk should be ok. I give him everything we are eating but cut up tiny and nothing hard. If to can squish it between your 2 fingers its usually good and nothing with skin.

Kevin has a milk intolerance but not an allergy. He's been on soy formula since 4 months. I guess he'd be considered lactose intolerant but since he hasn't has any milk-based products since around 4 months I don't know if he's outgrown it.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'll start trying him with "real" food a little at a time.

I'm also going to call his GI doctor to see what he says.
