Major vent: I've just been invited today to a wedding tonight as a flipping filler
My dear friend just called me, because her good friend (who I hardly know) is getting married tonight where we did, actually. Okay. "Do you guys want to go? Bleep wants to know if you want to, because she had like 5 people at one table drop out at the last minute."
Me: Well, if they have any common sense, they will still give her a gift therefore covering the plates.
Friend: Yeah, but she doesn't want it to look so empty.
Me: No, thanks.
The truth: Why would i want to go? Of course, I would feel the need to give a gift. The last thing DH wants to do tonight is come home and suit up again. I have a big zit and I'm craving sitting on the couch. No, I do not want to be your friend's filler guest. AND....drumroll. These two are already married. Did the whole wedding band and JOPeace thing. Now, she wants a huge vow renewal wedding. Big ring, big gown.

That is nuts! She just wants people to come so it doesn't look empty? I could understand if you were friendly with her and she couldn't invite you b/c of space, money, etc. But to invite you to be a filler?

HOWEVER ....im liking this vow renewal thing...but if i had one, i would ask NO gifts...but i do like the idea of re-doing my wedding in a few years, when we have more money......throw a big party...since my actual wedding was such a stressful day

i think it could be nice; i certainly wouldn't make it a HUGE fiasco with 350 people like this. as i said, this marriage was pretty much over and then.....guess it worked out?

I agree with Hollie...maybe if you were friendly and space or money constraints prevented her from inviting you in the first place! The tables are usually empty all night anyway b/c most people are up dancing and chatting with others, no one will care, and you shouldn't either.

The last thing I was worrying about on my wedding day was how "full" the tables looked. At that point I could care less.
The money is spent whether people come or not. The bride should forget about such a small issue, get over it, and enjoy this day.

I went to a wedding once as a filler and had a great time. It was a friend of the family and they had already paid for the plates. My parents had been invited (they were on the "A" list) and the bride asked because she just thought we'd have a good time and didn't expect a bigger gift.
I think it depends on the relationship you have with the person, but I think we also had a day or two notice.

I honestly don't think it's that bad. I would jump at the opportunity to go to another wedding where I got married, but even if it was somewhere else I would consider it if I felt like going out. I would definitely not give a gift in this situation-- but it would be fun to get dressed up, eat, drink and dance for free!
