painting outlet covers and radiators
do you paint outlet covers and radiators the same color as the walls?
i took pics of the different rooms we painted and sent them to my sister. she was surprised that we painted these items. most of our colors are warm so we didn't want the outlets and radiators to stand out, we wanted them to blend.
is this wierd?

Nope. The HOs of our house had painted all of theirs and they looked fine. We are going to replace them though, I don't know if we'll paint them or not. But they look fine either way.

I usually take the outlet covers off and put them on after the paint dries

is it weird, no!
I painted the outlets at first but then found that the paint peels off easy. DH went around changing all the outlets so we picked out white or cream which every would work better is each room.
if I had radiators I would paint them

we painted the radiators but not the outlet covers. we used decorative wood style outlets for the warm color, but def the base boards got the color of the wall- I think it would look like an eye soar if you didnt especially with a dark warm rich color!

All of our outlet covers are white. We took them off when we painted. We don't have radiators.

We didn't paint our outlet covers either. Our radiators were painted the same color as the walls.

Our friends painted their baseboards the same color of the walls, but left the outlet covers and switch plates white....I have never heard of painting over the baseboards...I would prefer to leave them white.
Is this something new, or have people been painting over their baseboards for a while now?

I didn't know much about that either until we had the professional painter come in to paint and he told us that it makes the walls flow nicer and disguise the baseboards which are an eyesoar. I'm glad I went with his suggestion, you hardly notice them now.

If the baseboard covers were old, or already painted, painting them is a good way to go. I'm not a fan of painting outlet covers.
We removed all our baseboard covers when we put the floors down, and now we're replacing them with new white ones. The old ones were previously painted, but I didn't want to paint them again. The white will flow better with our trim.

Yes thats why I figure we will elave them white...We are painting all our trim white. I like that look better than painting everything the colors of the walls

We had our home professionally painted too and they are the ones who suggested it and they were right. Even with a trim, the baseboard is part of the wall, we have trim underneath our baseboards that match the rest of the trim around the room. YOu def dont notice them at all when they flow with the wall.

Yep.. same here.. I have all crown moulding and chairrail that is in white and it looks sharp and you can't notice the baseboard.

My husband is a general contractor and he does pain the radiators the color of the trim, as far as the outlets no they do not paint them unless the customer wants them to. As far as my house the radiators are the color of our trim.

we had a professional painter paint the downstairs and he said the same thing about everything "flowing". when we painted the upstairs we did the same thing. 2 of the rooms are tan, 1 is burgandy and the other a medium blue. i think it looks SO much better w/ the baseboard radiators and outlet covers painted.
