Anyone delivering at Stony Brook Hospital?? UPDATE

Or have you delivered/known someone who did?

I am delivering here and was just interested to here some other peoples experiences.

One more question: I've been watching the Baby Story on TLC and it shows like, the whoel family and friends in the room! Does Stony Brook allow this? Maybe not while actually giving birth but up to that point, how many people were allowed in the room?

I delivered there...and I'm glad that I did...we ended needing the NICU...and they really are excellent at Stony Brook when it comes to the NICU.

Every mother has a room to herself...except you share the bathroom...so maybe its considered Semi Private.

The nurses let DH stay in the room with me...since I had a C-Section and the baby was in the NICU.

I'm delivering there and I really like what I have heard about it so far. The baby can stay with you as much as you like expect during rounds. The baby is checked out by Neo-natal doctor regardless of whether there are complications or not. The rooms are private.

I love the fact that there is a seperate emergancy room and admitting area for pregnant women so you don't have to go through general admission or the ER god forbid you need it.

I delivered there in 04 it was very nice no complaints I loev that everybody gets their own room!! no sharing!!!
i will be delievring there in march!

My sister delivered there. She liked it. Only complaint was they are strict on the visitors policy - which isn't a bad thing IMO.

I liked having my own room but didnt like that I had to share the bathroom with the woman next door. I thought the visiting hours were very open. None of my visitors had a problem.

eta: I had an emergency c-section so I was pretty out of it but from what I could remember the delivery nurses were nice and so were the nurses taking care of me on the maternity floor.

I delivered there.... and had alot of likes and dislikes...

I LOVED having my own room..... BUT I HATED the visiting hours.... I had a billion people in my room all day long...and the baby was always in the room...

I was exhausted and wanted to rest...and was terrified of my baby catching somthing from the many people who came to visit. I wish they would have had "set" times like 12-2 and 6-8, and the only time the baby could be in the room was grandparents hours...


My 1st night... the staff was horrible!!! (I wont even go into details) However the rest of my nights stay there...the staff was amazing.... so I guess it just depends on who you get...


My #1 complaint.... the LC didnt come to visit me, untill 15min before I was discharged.... I didnt take any classes on BFing because I was told the LC would work with me at the hospital...
And with her not coming until my 4th day there...what was my baby not supposed to eat the 1st 3 days of his life????


I had a sched. c-section...so I have no idea what the L&D is like...

I had Scotty there. granted this was 8 years ago, but the only complaint I had was what Marissa said...WAY too many people were allowed in the room, pretty much at all times.

I wanted time to rest and to bond, but there were constantly people there. Otherwise, no complaints.
