Gizzy - infected ear question?
AFter we brought Gizzy back from grooming he has been scratching his ear so much. The other day I noticed there were a few tiny scabs there, but now with him scratching so much it looks worse, the area is all wet (puss?) and red. Is there something I can clean it with and put on it that is safe for pets?

Re: Gizzy - infected ear question?
I tried the stuff they sell in the pet store and it made Misty's ears just like that - now I just use rubbing alcohol on a cotton ball once a month or so and she is fine. Hasn't had any infections at all. Warning, it is kind of gross though cuz all the dirt comes off on the cotton ball and you have to use a few. Also, I don't really soak it so there isn't any alcohol going into her ear.

Re: Gizzy - infected ear question?
Maybe use peroxide on a cotton ball to clean it out.
I use ear cleaner from any pet store. Take him outside and fill his ears with the cleaner. Then let him shake his head to get it all out. When he's done shaking, take a cotton ball to get all the excess moisture out.
The vet gave us medicine called Otomax to use after his ears are cleaned. It works well, and it also soothes his ears. Maybe you should call the vet for some meds.

I'd try wipes first (from Petco or whatever) because it may not be an infection just an irritation and if you clean with a liquid and use too much (if you are not used to doing it), you can cause more damage.
Good luck!!! Hugs for Gizmo!
