Best thing for Teething Dogs

I found it this weekend at Petco

They are Bagels. They cost $.59. I believe they are just stale Bagels. Tiny loves them...and its really good for teething.

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

What are NYLABONES

The bagels were in the front near the register.

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

Are bagels something the dogs can chew apart and swallow?
If so, not a good idea...choking hazards, and digestion problems are possible.

The best thing for teething puppies, as well as adult dogs (my adult dogs love them) are NYLABONES....

here's a link for some info:

http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/dept.asp?dept_id=108

I've posted this before, but my husband only recommends NYLABONES, he has performed so many surgeries to remove pieces of "other" materials from dogs' intestine because they don't pass (ie. CHEWIES, and other chew type treats).

Good luck.

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

Which Nylabone is good for smaller dogs? I had the velvetbone recommended to me from a rescuer once, but Pyxie actually bit off the little *nubbies* & was swallowing them whole. I was not sure if they could accumulate in her digestive system, so I took the bone away from her. Did I give her the wrong one?

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

That was the other thing I wanted to post.....No gummabones, or other products, only NYLABONES...because the other softer versions break apart as well.

Nylabone company makes several types, only buy the ones that are true NYLABONE (it will say nylabone, and they are quite hard, not soft), if you read...make sure it doesn't say Gummabone or the one you bought, velvetbone.

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

Absolutely NONE of the edibles and none of those bendible ones...you'll have to go to the store and feel them through the plastic, if they bend...no good...then a dog can probably chew them apart into pieces...just go to the store, and find a small, hard, traditional nylabone...or even the hard nylabone ring. They do make the traditional NYLABONES in flavors...as long as they are the hard solid ones, you'll be fine.

I don't know about puppybone, I can't tell if it's bendable or edible. If not, then that might be a good one.

frozen carrots are really great for teething dogs, not to mention a good alternative treat to biscuits! Also, ice cubes....

Yes, we used to give my puppy ice cubes. Dogs will think anything is a treat if you make a big deal out of it. My dog always got so excited for ice cubes.

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

What carrots do you give your dog? The small ones? I would be concerned that they would swallow it

I used frozen baby carrots. He chews them, never tried to swallow them whole. He gets so excited when I make a salad because he knows he's getting a "treat".

Re: Best thing for Teething Dogs

I used to use the baby carrots, I would just freeze the bag, then I switched to the big ones, I just cut the tops and bottoms off for him...he's just shy or a year old, so he's still teething a little...
