Anyone else really perplexed by this?

One newswoman just said "I didn't feel or see any violence. They are angry, but they are caring for one another."

Why is it so hard to help these people? We can get to the moon, but we can't get to the south? And if they are afraid of chaos, set up 20 areas where people can get food and water. They do it at concert venues, so I'm sure they can do it there.

Sorry for the vent, but I see Bush all nice and tan while these people are starving. Not that he isn't entitled to a vacation, but it irks me to see his face and then see the devastation. But I'm not Bush bashing, so no flaming!!!Chat Icon

I completely understand what you are saying. As I watch all the film that they are taking, I keep thinking, where are these reporters going after this? Are they going back to their $300/night hotel to take a leisurely bath then go get some dinner?
I have been so sick thinking that this has happened in our country. Yes, I was affected by the Tsunami but that was in a place I have never been to. This is OUR COUNTRY. I can't believe this has happened here. These are our neighbors, friends, family. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I don't think so, since the city still doesn't have power. I heard one of the reporters say this morning that they were sleeping in their truck.

Yeah I really dont think that is the case. I don't think there are any $300 a night hotel rooms and even if there were they still probably don't have electricity

And police said even they are not getting any help - they are surviving on corn dogs and beef jerkey.

Supposedly FedEx planes are on their way to Houston Astro Dome with $90million in relief packages...but what is being sent to New Orleans?

Another thing I do not understand is WHY are people being raped????? WTH???? I know people are sick and hungry and tired and thirsy and scared...why are they going and RAPING people??? This makes no sense! Are they are NOT animals! One guy said he tried to get on a bus and instead he had a knife shoved at him so now he is scared to try to get on another bus. What is going on?

My only guess is that people there do NOT know how to act in a tragedy.....I'm so sick of it all-looting, raping, shooting, etc....

plus, any hotel manager that would STILL be charging $300/night, or charging ANY AMOUNT for that matter, should be ashamed of himself!!

I truly don't understand this either.. the raping is horribly disgusting in particular. Its horrific

but I just think we truly cannot fathom what is going on with these people.. this is worse than merely losing your homes, there is a sense of NO HOPE and pretty much a mentaility that they are jsut waiting to die. Not only are they physcially in danger (with no clean water/food/adequate shelter/medical care), mentally they are crushed.. its obvious they are losing their minds, and I think that given the conditions that makes sense. You CANNOT think clearly is you are dehydrated/malnurished and in constant fear not only of the natural disaster surrounding you, but for the fact that the person next to you might kill you for a piece of bread Chat Icon

I have read stories about the conditions in the superdome and convention center and there is the smell of death everywhere.. reporters who have been in there say its one of the worst things they've ever seen in their lives, dead bodies all over, children starving, etc.

I would probably lose my mind too, how can you even retain hope at that point?Chat Icon Chat Icon

Until this point I've refrained from responding to any of the post about this. I can only speak for myself here but I truly feel that I have no concept of the absolute horror these people are going through. Unless one of us has actually lived in a war zone or something comparable to a concentration camp then we cannot begin to FATHOM the situation. Everything, including the earth underneath them is gone, no beds, no shelter, no food, no sanitation facilities, never mind the "luxuries" we enjoy... a hot shower, a hot meal, a blanket on our bed and yes, even the comport of loved ones. Many have none of that AND are searching for their family and can't find them because all avenues of modern communication are not available. They have been reduced to living like animals in the wild and when that happens many human beings, like animals, will turn on each other for survivial.

I am by no means saying what they are doing is right... it's not. We are the only animal on this planet with the ability to reason but I think that ability has now been compromised. It doesn't surprise me because their daily lives are all about survival. It is a completely unfathomable situation.

In the past few days I have become even more thankful for everything and everyone in my lifeChat Icon

The whole situation is dire...not to mention all the people who may have relied on medicane to help them live....diabetics, depressed, schizophrenic....you just don't know. People have been without everything and those not on their medications, you don't know how that may make them act.

I for one don't view them as animals....lets see how everyone would react if Long Island was washed away...with no house or town for that matter for miles and miles. Where would you go? What would you do?
