My birth story

Sorry for the delay, this took a few days to write.
First, like everyone, let me sat that I never could have gotten through this whole pregnancy thing without you guys- what an amazing group of people you all are! This whole experience has been truly incredible and I want to thank you all for sharing it with me (the good and the bad!)
Being pregnant and having a baby have been the most wonderful things I have ever done but both were harder than I ever imagined they would be.
In the end I have this wonderful little girl which to me is the TRULY amazing part.
My birth story: (sorry in advance if TMI)
My due date was 12/5. On Monday 11/28 I woke up not feeling right- my stomach was hurting and I was feeling crampy. I also thought I was leaking fluid and maybe my water broke. I went to my Dr. and he hooked me up to the NST machine. I was on it for about 22 minutes and had 2 contractions. I was told I was not in labor and should go home. He also told me my water did not break (but he didn’t check).
I spent the rest of the day at home lying around- I still wasn’t feeling well but it got progressively worse. I was having menstrual like cramps and upset stomach cramps at the same time so I wasn’t really sure what I was feeling. By 11 pm I was just generally feeling like crap but still unable to distinguish what the exact problem was so I went to bed and slept until about 1:30. I kept falling asleep on and off and looking at the clock when I realized that I was waking about every 20 minutes.
So I got up and went into the living room to lay down around 3:30 am- the longer I did the clearer it became that I was having contractions and was pretty sure (but not positive) I was in labor.
My contractions were about 7 minutes a part.
I waited until 7 am to call the Dr. because I didn’t want to bother him in the middle of the night(that was stupid I now realize). So by the time he called me back I was in so much pain that I was having trouble even timing the contractions because the pain from them never really went away. I was told by the Dr. (who I think did not really believe me that I was in labor) not to go to the hospital in case it was a false alarm, that I should go to his office instead. When I got there I was hooked up to the NST again and they confirmed I was having contractions and the Dr. would meet me at the hospital.
When I got there at about 8:30- 9 am they took me in to be examined by a resident who said I was 3-4 centimeters dilated so I was admitted. By then I was in a lot of pain.
My Dr. got there about an hour later and examined me again- by then I was 5-6 cm and it HURT!
I was told I could not have an epidural yet because I needed 2 IV bags of fluid first so they hooked me up- I got a half a bag and was in so much pain that I got the epidural anyway. As soon as I got it my Dr. examined me again and said I was 7-8 cm. I can’t believe I made it so far with no meds- I am truly proud of myself!
As for the epidural- I was always afraid of it but at that point it hurt so much I did not care. The Dr. that gave it was great- It pinched and I felt a little pressure and had to get 2 shots to numb the area, but he did a great job and I felt better almost instantly. I had no side effects whatsoever from the epidural, which I finally got about 11 am.
I was feeling pretty good after that, I was examined again at 1 pm and was completely dilated and ready to push. I pushed for a half hour with the epidural, then it was turned off because I was not being productive. I started feeling the pressure and contractions, and got the episiotomy (which was VERY big, the nurses said I had 3rd degree lacerations). I pushed for 1 hour and 45 min total- Katie was born at 2:47 pm.
I can’t even explain to you the moment she came out- she was crying instantly and didn’t stop until they brought her to me a few minutes later and she heard my voice.
I think the worst part for me was delivering the placenta after. I don’t know why, most of my friends told me they don’t even remember it. But I think mine tore and he had to go in and get it- all I know is he stitched me up after the baby was born, tore all the stitches while getting the placenta, and had to restitch me again. I felt most of it because by then the epidural had been off over an hour.
So that’s it! Sorry so long, I hope it helps!

Honestly, I am feeling kind of crappy. My stitches hurt a lot and I have some kind of infection- I am on antibiotics now.

But it is all worth it!

Sorry I forgot to add- she was 6 lbs 6 1/2 oz and 19 inches long!

Re: My birth story

Congrats! I was able to push with the epidural on so I can't imagine how painful that was. You are my hero!

Sorry about the infection, I hope it clears up soon.

I also had 3rd degree tear, I found that the sitz bath really helped to soothe me when my stitches were bothering me.

That's so sweet that she knew right away that you were her mommy and she could stop crying. That must've made you feel great!
